Quote:
Can you please explain why NPC's that roam are "gods"?

This is related to a basic rule for Ryzom : the ones you can attack are the ones that can attack you - it can be either an NPC or a player, the rule is the same. Regarding roaming NPCs, like the guards, the fact that you can't attack them (and that they can't attack you) was designed to avoid unnecessary mistakes - it would just be too easy to die by clicking at the wrong place when you're not watching.

This could be changed for some NPCs in the future : fame will be reworked, and some NPCs (like guards or Kami/Karavan agents) may become less friendly to those who are standing against them. A great answer, although I must not have been clear.

Can you explain why roaming NPC tribes that are attackable by me do not draw aggro from the creatures of Atys?

do you have any plans to allow the roaming tribe groups to interact fully with the enviroment? ie fight off carnavoires and also attack players who have -80 fame with them?

would make things a whole lot more interesting and give some additional meaning to the fame system.

Little, but important question:

What is the respawn rate of supreme bosses (the two big star ones with minions)? It doesn't seem to be a fixed time frame, but they all seem to respawn at a specific date/time. Considering we all play in different timezones, this can give a certain timezone an advantage over the other. Am I correct or am I mistaken here?

Have a couple of questions:

1) What happens to our questions that are not picked by the CM to give to you? Are they qued on a list somewhere and will eventually get submitted at a latter date, or do we have to resubmit our questions again?

2) Once in a while, I will see the floating numbers (green, blue, red, yellow, white, that can be positive valued or negative valued) above my character's head. These are fairly large numbers, and about the only thing I could decern from them is that these are geographically linked somehow. What do these numbers represent, as they are not annotated in the System window, and what do the colors signify if any? (oh, and these are not hits from ranged attacks)

.... and also attack players who have -80 fame with them?

would make things a whole lot more interesting and give some additional meaning to the fame system.

Hey now. I have to deal with those wanderers extremely often (they regularly pass right over top of me while I am digging), and the only tribes I have -80 or greater with are those that I recieved fame for them in the first place due to *bugged* mission givers. It's bad enough that I'm stuck with fame I would not have taken if I'd known in advance that those givers gave fame that was in no way siginified, don't give them ideas to punish me further.

They/you want to make the wanderers kill us as well as the tribe they are attached to, they can offer to fix fame recieved through bugs too.

Can we get info about Kamibar ? How many Mats are approx. available per player ? Or is this not player dependant ?

I also would like to see some statistics about how many mats palyers dig a week :D

To start an rite mission we need 34 global fame with matis/zorai/tryker/fyros. There are atm no working Karavan/Kami rite missions. Will they also need 34 global fame in order to start? If so, how can "neutral" players start those rite missions?

Can you explain why roaming NPC tribes that are attackable by me do not draw aggro from the creatures of Atys?

I'd also like to know the answer to this, but that's not the only lack of aggro behavior that puzzles me:
Why do the predators of Atys not attack bandit NPCs or primitives (gibbai/cutes/frahars)?
Why do the herbivores that display social behavior (teaming up against you if you attack one of them) only display this behavior against players and not against predators?
Why do kitin soldiers only attack herbivores, and not predators, primitives, or even bandit NPCs? Aren't they supposed to be "a terror to all fauna living within its vicinity"?

As it is now kitins, predators, primitives and bandits all peacefully live next to each other, only to collectively attack any player that comes near. It's as if everything dangerous out there is part of an alliance to destroy hominkind.

LOL. They have positive fame regarding the predators.

/joke off

Because would be too easy for players to pull predators to predators, to watch the fight then to kill the weakened winner.

Neutral was mentioned as viable option for outposts in one of your previous Q&As.

How is Neutral going to be implemented?

Will Neutral be a faction or just based on fame?

Heh, wouldn't it be nice if positive fame with the gibads/cuzans/fraiders would stop the gibais/cutes/frahars from attacking you?
But back on topic, I don't think that would be easy at all, let alone too easy. For one thing, this can be done already by pulling predators to strong herbivores. I've tried doing this myself in the past, but once the predator is after me, it will not attack the herbivore until I'm dead. So pulling predator A to predator B would result in BOTH of them attacking and killing me before they turn on eachother.
Pulling predators to herbivores only works on shorelines, where you can jump in the water to make the predator 'forget' about you and turn on the herbivore instead. But even then it wouldn't be easy to pull a predator on another predator, as you'd have to find two different kinds of predators both close to the water and close to eachother and then time it just right to get them in range of eachother without getting yourself killed. If you can pull that of, in my opinion you've earned the easy kill.

hmmm, got to love a good conspiracy theory :p
Hmm, I hadn't even considered it might be part of the story. Maybe we'll find out later that the kitins and predators and everything are all controlled by some powerfull force that incites them to team up against homins. *hopes this doesn't start another fight between Karavan and Kami followers about who's controlling them*

Q: What factors affect the rate that Kami tolerance drops? In particular, what can I do as a harvester to minimize the damage done? Also, is there anything that we can do to make the tolerance recharge faster, or does that just seep back up at a set rate?

Xavier, I've been wondering a bit about what the workings are behind the Bleeding Stanza. The public opinion is fairly varied on the topic, which pretty much proves the point that this Stanza is shrouded in a bit of mystery.

I'm wondering if we can all get some specifics on this Stanza, as well as what's being done to spice up melee combat in general. As of right now, as far as I can tell, the combat trees become fairly mundane after 100, if not before then. And are there any plans to improve Bleeding? (And Slow, since I've heard that doesn't work so well either) Thanks!

As for even bigger patches, such as chapter III, we are currently increasing our focus on the development of the outposts. Within a few weeks, an early draft of the outposts should reach the ATS - this will be a rough and really incomplete version (it will only be 30% complete). Once on the ATS, development and testing will move along, until the point where it will be feature complete and the tests successful - we will then pass it live.

<frustrated mode one>
I'm sorry, but this does not make me verry happy. It has been a while since release, in wich this was promised. if in a few weeks a rough version of the outposts feature will be on ATS it will take about 3 more months to get it ingame. When it gets ingame there will be the usual bugs and problems. *points to the rites that are on test for ages*

We have different goals in mind for the new interface. First, we want it to have a better ergonomy, so it better fits to the gameplay and is more understandable, with the functions grouped in a more consistent way. We are also working on the interface's evolutivity, to ease the work of the teams working on it internaly, so we can modify it more quickly in the future. And, last but not least, we want better graphics !

Please note that we have a small team dedicated on this on the background, so it's more a long-term work than something we will realease in the next few months.

<frustrated mode on>
Get that team to test the rites, what good will a new interface do in a year. if they can make a interface they can click on a NPC to test a rite.

<sarcasm mode on>
Now I know why it takes a long time to bring guilds/chars back, there are people working on the interface

*takes a deep breath*

Just had to write that off me...

about consumable 'potions' goods.
it will be different types of consumable goods, from the traditional healing item to some rare types of vegetables with unkown effects...

from easter egg events, i thank you to make it all right : no "buff" possibilities like charging ourselve with tons of healing powder and chain-using them (and so being immortal for a while, especially in PvP/GvG) !

so another question :
Will you add device items ? something you can use when in your inventory and never disappear (or maybe have to be loaded with "shots").

There is interesting possbilities like a noise-maker to afraid herbivorous, or karavan technologies things : an instant ressurect device, a "cloak from mob" device...
there is lots of RP related thing possible with device items

Can we get an explanation of allied fame. You have added the nice messages that state who you gain or lose fame from due to an allie relationship or enemy relationship, however if you run around and do a lot of fame missions, they seem to be messed up. I.e. it is clearly a Karavan camp, however I lose fame with the Karavan due to them being an enemy?

I have submittied numerous of these as tickets. Seems like they need 2 sets of eyes to run over all of them.

1. Can you explain the Guild Fame number that is displayed on the Guild Info window. How is this number affected, and what is it's purpose?

2. why on a reset, patch, crash, etc. does the world not return to it's original state pre-event? I hear about a living world, but this CRUSHES the "suspension of disbelief."

Can you pretty please look at the problem with scrollbars in windows - as its impossible to see all content in the windows (fx the macrowindow and the radar).

Another little thing is the absence of birds, there are all kinds of animals in this world, but the sky in almost empty... more birds flying and chittering pls =)

Will merchants ever stop displaying items with 0 available? It greatly clutters the interface (and, I assume, slows things down).

"We have real ambition for range fighting, as a third form of combat - something different from melee and magic - bringing an original diversity to the game. So this is a major point here : range fighting clearly needs to be deeply reworked and improved. But for that we need to finish the other big works currently in progress - the cleaning and the outposts."

Can you shed any light on ranged fight at this point, with the extension being penned as the next content patch after outposts/chap 3 (and the spring clean) Where does this leave ranged fight. Should we expect ranged fight to stay in it's current form till after the extension is fully implemented live.

Also where will the overhaul of meele fit into the predicted patch cycle? Can we hope to see this as part of the spring clean or will it have to wait till after the extension. Will there be additional fixes and minor content changes happening alongside the extension or will all production focus on that once chapter 3 is fully implemented?

We have already adressed the fact that melee warriors are at a disadvantage during combat in comparison with mages and that something is planned to change to even it out.

However it has been brought to my attention that melee slashers and melee smashers could be at a definite disadvantage to melee piecers. This is to do with the stanza Ignore Armour available to pikemen. I think its good that the 3 types of melee are more effective than each other at certain kinds of mobs, yet surely they should be equally matched when fighting each other PvP style?

If this is definitely the case then why would somebody ever want to develop sword or mace skills? It would appear that unless you are a pikeman you are obsolete in PvP!

Please correct me if this is hearsay because i havent had chance to test it :)

Disadvantage against melee piercers? Have you ever tried using close combat?
Now that is a skill that has a disadvantage. ;)

So will there be done something to get the close combat skill more even with the other melee classes?

I like shields.

A lot.

But I feel that they are underpowered. Any chance something is going to be done about them? I was thinking maybe make them like jewelry, with bonuses to your resistances and stuff. Which brings me to my second point. Jewelry already shows that a resistance is possible depending on the amber used. People on here have already expressed how nasty nukers are so how's about making warriors something to be feared by giving them jewelry protection from spells!

And nice stuff for shields.

GO SHIELDS!!!

OK Ive finally got round to making a suggestion and Ill phrase it as a question, which I will then followup with what Ive found to be the answer.

Do Nevrax ever intend to lower the point requirements to level up ?

Im in some big guilds outside of Ryzom and have had the chance to ask many of these people if they have played Ryzom or are planning too.

Three types of feedback.

1. No but now you've told me about it Ill take a look.
2. Yes, I thought the game was graphically pretty but it lacked content and I felt the levelling was a real grind.
3. No, because Ive heard that its just a pretty leveller, with lots of grind and not much content.

Now theres not much point going on about content, we know exactly where that is but how about addressing the problems about Ryzom being percieved as a grinder MMOG. In the guild im in here we all agreed that 100 was a barrier, that after 100 the grind did set in for even us.

So is there the possibility that the points per required level can be reduced, I know that its going to upset the ppl who in fairness have worked hard to achieve those titles but the fact remains that Nevrax are in Chapter 11 and need more customers.
I will be easier when outposts go in because then we will have something to work towards, like WoW levelling without the perception of grind.

heres a question about our ability to 'change and evolve' Atys as players.: I reaally like the idea of having Atys and history on Atys changable by players, and i'm wondering exactly how dynamic the world is, for instance, if Trykers put it to a vote and decided to go back to being Kami oriented, and everyone worked on their Kami fame, would we be able to switch culturally? Or are we stuck with the well meaning but obviously sold out confused Governor Denen Toen and his likes??

do you have any plans on enforcing the rules of the game you've laid out to all the players in the code of conduct section of your website, http://www.ryzom.com/?page=legal_codeofconduct and in the kill stealing and harrassment sections of the support tool?

as it stands now the answer is no players can do whatever they want and the gm's and csr staff does absolutely nothing, there is a forum post that any csr staff or nevrax employee has yet to reply to.

i realise the game world isn't that populated but still this is a violation of the rules, so i'm just wondering if they will actually enforce the rules that have been laid down?

As all prime root harvesters know, the depoits in the roots get empty for a while after you've harvested 100-150 materials from a source. With the 2 servers merging there is a lot more activity in the roots and I can see a lot more depleted deposits. Does the software considers the online or active players when calculating how many materials can be harvested from the roots? How long does it take for a source to contain some materials again? Do they "pop" back like the mobs do, or are the amounts incresed graduatly? When a choice source is depleted, does it mean that there won't be any excelent or supreme materials, when the weather changes and vica-versa?

1) Does the software considers the online or active players when calculating how many materials can be harvested from the roots?
no, 72 supreme, 100something excellent, unlimted choice per spot (see #4)

2) How long does it take for a source to contain some materials again?
good question ;) server reboot would b my guess on supreme's

3) Do they "pop" back like the mobs do, or are the amounts incresed graduatly?
pop

4) When a choice source is depleted, does it mean that there won't be any excelent or supreme materials, when the weather changes and vica-versa?
nope, choice deplete as they do above ground, ie they come back within 15-20mins but the supremes and excellents are on individual tickers

The bleeding stanza increases the damages you're doing to your opponent : it can double them. But all the damages are not inflicted instantly : when you touch the creature, your "normal" damages are inflicted, and the creature starts to bleed. The bleeding damages are then done over a given lapse of time (DoT). Also, bleeding only works with slashing weapons.Description of the stanza, is more informative than this answer.

I will try to word this as well as I can.

My question 1 is:

Will the 'Huge' content add come around the E3 event in the middle of May?

Why I am asking.

There is enough content in the game to keep 'new' players happy for months, however as we start to have more higher level players the time it takes of a 'new' player to become an experienced player is greatly reduced.

I went out with some 'new' players and we explored and had great fun. However its possible to skill these 'new' players very fast and this while removing some of the early frustrations, does mean that they will soon become 'experienced' players.

I have found the following:

If you level harvest and crafting first, the is loads to keep you busy.
If you level elemental magic first, in a week you can GO ANYWHERE with a healer.

This means that there is a fast path to boredom.

I have started (hates to say it) to see that all things are the same.

Learn 'how' to kill bosses and you can kill them with easy.
Learn 'how' to sneak and you can go anywhere.
Learn 'how' to harvest and you can get limitless materials.
Learn 'how' to craft efficiently and its just down to time and resources.

I am sure I haven't been everywhere and seen everything, but I am sure that time is fast approaching.

Outposts - I am concerned that with the build up that our expectations will become too big for you to deliver something that won't be over in 5 mins. (I really hope I am wrong on this)

I personally am sticking with Ryzom, because as I put it somewhere else...

I don't stop going to the pub with my friends just cas I am bored of playing darts. I concern is tho that the more of my friends stop going 'to the pub' the less reason I have to go.

This lead me to question 2 :

When do you expect to have the clean-up completed? (a realistic answer of 1 week or 3 weeks is all I am after)

Question 3 :

What is in the next content patch?

Question 4 :

Will you get back on track and continue the 'new major content every 6 months' promise after the release of outposts?

Closing notes:

I still haven't completed my personal goals for the CURRENT game, however the ones that are left are tasks that if I don't complete I will still be happy.

Example - the 'perfect armour' (this requires access to every material in the game, this I am in a position to do now, so its just a matter of time.)

As one of the slowest power-players, I am still yet to have any lvl 250s, I know that I will reach the point where the only aspect of the game left is the social side.

So my final question .... number 5:

What are your (Nevrax) plans to stop my friends getting bored?

These are very hard questions, but I am in the mood for straight questions that need straight answers.

What he said.

A question here:

How many memebers does a guild need to have a specific number of officers/high officers (for example 20 members for each HO, 10 for each officer)?
I think its something like 24/32/48 etc to get another ranked member, but I'm not sure

Hello,

There has been fewer questions posted in the Q&A threads lately, compared to a few months ago when we started - there was a huge demand for it at that time. So I will now publish the Q&A every two weeks, instead of every week. The release cycle for the Glimpse of production articles will be unchanged, so basically I will publish a Glimpse one week, and a Q&A the other.

Also, since I'll be attending the E3 (and taking a week of holidays in Los Angeles just after *grins*), there won't be any Glimpse or Q&A from the 05/15 to the 05/30. Instead, I'll post you pictures of the convention. :-)

--
Xavier.

Lol The demand hasn't dropped. I just think alot of us have given up...you seldom answer the questions we really want to know. I think reducing to once every 2 weeks is doing us a disservice. I certainly look forward to your insights even if they rarely cover the interesting questions.

While I don't agree with the tone of this post there are a lot of unanswered questions remaining from before, or misunderstandings of previous questions (I blame translation). Going back over the previously asked things might be an idea.

i view this as admitting defeat, there aren't any questions coming that he could actually answer and on top of that the players don't even know what to ask anymore, or in other words: they don't know if it would actually be worth the effort of asking, when there's a big chance that the question will be changed or completely ignored

What IS the official stance on storing mats / items on the vendor? Is this allowed or is it an exploit? Will there be any changes forthcoming to change the way this currently functions, or is everything the way you intend the gameplay to function?

Event PVP
I was looking through old patch notes and saw the following in patch 36 I think it was:

"*The PvP faction (during events only): *
. This PvP takes place in a single region during events.
. Every player who enters this zone must choose a side or remain neutral.
. This PvP allows players to participate in conflicts generated by the unfolding of the Saga."

I have never personally seen this used but heard that had to do with it not working properly with regards to fame. I was curious if this type of PvP has been abandoned, is being reworked for future event use, or any other relevant information.

Will you remove the description of features from your website that are not actually in the game in an attempt to present an honest front to new and browsing parties?

Are you worried that someone will report you to Advertising Standards Authority, European Advertising Standards Alliance, (UK etc) Trading Standards Institute, various Public Protection Departments (UK) and other self regulatory or government bodies?

Stanza bricks, very nice. More apparently are in Chapter One's guild trainers, Chapter Two's rites and Chapter Three's outpost 'advantages'. In the absence of these features at the moment, can you give us some teasers on what kind of new or planned bricks are available? You must have designed a load of them and it would be interesting to see what characters development options await us as we meander through the Saga.

Thanks.

So will there be done something to get the close combat skill more even with the other melee classes?

Close combat should be weaker than the other classes. Do you honestly think a dagger is going to do more damage than an axe? or a pike? The thing is, there needs to be something that makes it more useful in some area. I remember seeing in the past where you could change the quality of the mats recieved depending on how you kill a creature or something like this. So I would get better mats if I killed a kitin with a dagger then if I killed it with a sword. Is this still something that nevrax is looking at implamenting in the future? Or has this been dropped from thought at this point? Basically is this going to go somewhere eventually? (Not looking for when it will be done such as next year, just a yes it's going to happen eventually, or no we arent considering it anymore because...) Thank you :)

Have a 'dodge boost' brick you can pick up with close combat for use with fists or daggers but have it far more heavily affected by armour than the other actions.

This would mean your martial artists and dagger fighters could be a lot harder to hit as they duck and dive and weave but anything above light/medium armour and they're screwed.

1) At E3 you guys had a closed booth off to the side. I am curious why that decesion was made. Also why didn't you guys pass copies of the game out to show attendees?

2) As of late the game population has been getting smaller and smaller (or so it seems). What plans are in the works to get more people to play the game? Are you pretty much going to count on the expansion to do that or is there something sooner?

3) One of the questions I had about the Ryzom Ring is how is that going to tie into the story? Is the plan to review what players create and pick the ones that would fit? What would happen if a player used a main story character in their creation?

4) When are we going to get the new Kami and Karavan content David spoke of in his recent letters?

5) In the new trailer there is a very cool looking orange Kami that has not been seen in game yet. When can we expect to see it live?

6) Are we ever going to get invasions of other creatures besides Kitin or Gabbai? I think something like a Yubo invasion would prove quite popular.

7) Currently the game suffers from a lack of quests and missions. Why can't you publish a rite a week or something?

I can answer some of these:

1) At E3 you guys had a closed booth off to the side. I am curious why that decesion was made. Also why didn't you guys pass copies of the game out to show attendees?

Mainly, our press relations people did a great job of scheduling press interviews and meetings with clans, along with the busness meetings we had set up, so I asked that the door to the booth be kept closed to keep out walk-in traffic, while we gave demos and had meetings and interviews.

We did give away the game at the reception desk, but they went so fast, there times when the desk was clear, :D.

2) As of late the game population has been getting smaller and smaller (or so it seems). What plans are in the works to get more people to play the game? Are you pretty much going to count on the expansion to do that or is there something sooner?

More on this later. We do have some plans, but we need to bake them a bit more thoroughly before discussing them.

3) One of the questions I had about the Ryzom Ring is how is that going to tie into the story? Is the plan to review what players create and pick the ones that would fit? What would happen if a player used a main story character in their creation?

Good questions. David and I plan to do a wrap-up this week for you on these and other Ring questions.

4) When are we going to get the new Kami and Karavan content David spoke of in his recent letters?

Top priority right now. On reviewing the design implementation work, we ran into a couple problems, but we're sorting them out. I would expect them to go into test in the next two weeks, but I'll keep you updated.

5) In the new trailer there is a very cool looking orange Kami that has not been seen in game yet. When can we expect to see it live?

Not sure, I'll have to check on it and get back to you. Ping me if I forget.

6) Are we ever going to get invasions of other creatures besides Kitin or Gabbai? I think something like a Yubo invasion would prove quite popular.

Sure, but I can't give a date. We're just getting a handle on the new priority list, meaning: the team is bringing the new EP up to speed and she's vetting the list for sanity. I expect us to have the list done, sanity checked by the team and in priority order within the next 10 days. After that, we'll talk more with you about what we plan to do for the next 6 months and have you sanity check our sanity check.

7) Currently the game suffers from a lack of quests and missions. Why can't you publish a rite a week or something?

As stated elsewhere, that's one of our short term goals. Need to do some tools work to streamline the process, however.

Also, thanks to all of you for being patient with us. Our top priority overall is to start rewarding that patience as soon as possible with new content and things to do.

For me its too late, ive kept subscribing to the game since March even though I havent played in the hope by now that outposts would be here.
Lets face it, tbh Ive really been hanging on since Christmas and thats only because my best friend neun is here. So on Sunday I un-subscribed, the long awaiting E3 announcements not there, and the post from Raynes the nail in the coffin.

Wether outposts are on the ATS server now or not Im not paying for empty promises.

Its been said before and Ill say it again, Ryzom atm is a prettly leveller and thats it. If I want to grind Ill do that in WoW because at least there when I get bored of it there are plenty of other things I can go do.

My statement, when you say your going to deliver do and dont keep using "soon" because when someone at Nevrax uses soon it generally equates to a timeframe of a very very long time.

Basically your right mate, the lack of definitive dates regarding content is what I meant by nail in the coffin.

Im one of the many who has been hanging around waiting for the much lorded E3 announcements, and as much as the ring looks interesting I cant wait until the end of the year. Nor can I wait months for outposts when I expected them to come flying out to co-inside with E3 (what most of us expected).

What did we get, an announcement of an upcoming feature. Sorry not good enough and tbh I wont be the only one de-subbing because of it im sure.

Anyway Neun will keep me updated and if outposts do turn out to be anygood then Ill be back to take a look. In the mean time there are other games Ive yet to play that I can sub too.

Outpost Questions that have come up....

I saw the working example of the outposts at the show and I was impressed. Since I have come back and posted about it several interesting questions have come about so I wanted to post them here to hopefully get an answer.

1) I saw the fact that a central part of outposts is the ability to hire NPC's to protect it. The question has come up concerning the attacking guild. Will it be possible to hire NPC's to help in attacking? If it isn't how is it going to be possible for a guild of 10 players to take on a guild that has 6 or 7 waves of NPC's to fight?

2) I remember being told something about bonuses, can you tell us more about that?

3) Can you tell us more about the guild alliance aspect of the outposts?

4) Will faction have anything to do with the price and ability to hire NPC's?

5) Will wildlife and bandits tribes attack the outposts? For example if we build an outpost in the roots and the Kitin come near will the NPC's we hire protect us?

6) Will it be possible to have the NPC's we hire attack non guilded players? What about guilded ones that don't declare war? As an example if my guild builds an outpost and I want the NPC's to attack anyone with a high Karavan faction that comes into my outpost area, can I do that?

7) It was said sometime ago that there would alse be a diplomatic way to get outposts. Is this still true, how will that work?

8) This is for the people who designed the outposts. What are your goals with introducing outposts into the game? What I mean is what effect do you want them to have on players?

9) From what I saw the outpost are about one thing really, that being guild vs. guild conflict. Did I get that right, or is there another purpose to them in the game?

10) Will crafter guilds be able to create armor for thier hired NPC's to wear to give them stronger abilities?

I think that about covers the gray areas that have come up. Thanks ahead of time for answering them... Lately many of my questions have been answered in a very straight forward and clear way and I truely appreciate it.

I would like to elaborate this questions. If yes, do NPC actually wear and use player made equipment. In Kitin invasion event npc guards had standard equipment and only quantity and quality (q) of player crafted items mattered. Item grade(basic-supreme) or actual stats did not have any effect.

I know, this is much to ask but it would rock!

Outpost Questions that have come up....

1) Will there be a penalty for those who fail in conquering an outpost ?

2) Are all hired NPCs visible or are there sort of barracks ?

3) It was said that it takes 24 hours between declaration of war and the posibillity to attack an outpost. If offender and defender have both one ore more outposts, are they then all included in this war ? I mean, is a declaration of war doublesided ?

4) Are outposts visible on the map. Probaply with status (on war or not) and with current owner ?

5) How long, approximately, does it take to conquer an outpost ? 10 minutes, 1 hour, 6 hours, 6 days ? Are even sieges possibel ? I mean, is there enough time to start political action, calling allies or such ?

I can answer number 2. They aren't visable and that is on purpose. They set it up so that the attacking guild can't know how many troops you have. They could kill a wave, think they are done, then another one appear.

And I think the 24 hour period is designed to give you time to call your allies and such.

Another question, unrelated to outposts.

As it has been stated, a lot of work is in progress to streamline the delivery of new content, rites, etc. which should be released more often and regularly. This raises a new question: the patching process. Is something being done the patching process and server downtimes? Can players expect low server downtimes during content updates, and not those horrid 8h downtime? Is it viable to have some kind of redundancy infrastructure where server downtime is truly minimum?

thanks,
Ani

I asked this in a 'get to know the game and community' post and they suggested putting it here...

Hello Devs and the Ryzom community,

I'm doing the 14 day trial and I wanted to post and ask some very specific questions in order to get a feel for the general level of happiness in this community, I came here after reading hundreds of great player reviews at MMORPG.com about the community and customer service here so figured it was worth a try despite vowing never to play another MMORPG....why?......

SWG

I played SWG for 18 months and have been put off playing MMORPG's heavily by the negative community and the absolutely tyranical development team and obscenely bad customer relations.

My questions for the Devs - please just answer fairly, honestly and stay away from corporate 'generic' speak.

1) Paid expansion packs, extra free content or fixing existing content, with limited manpower how do you make the decision of where to focus your labor?
2) At E3 this year my co-worker saw your booth but said he walked past it without stopping because he'd never heard of the game, how do you feel about that? Do you consider yourself a different market segment from WoW or SWG?
3) MMORPG communities are notorious for being unhappy, SoR seems to be pretty happy from what I've heard, how does a Dev team keep that going? How will you avoid the 'Dev's versus community' rift?
4) Big community or happy long-term community???

Thanks for your candid and direct replies.

Having spent time with community on these forums over the last few days it seems that this initial post was far too aggressive. So far the community have been nothing but helpful and informative but moreso have shown how happy they are with the game. This can only mean that the Dev's are doing a good job.

So I apologize for 'painting you with the same brush' as Devs from other games if it came across that way, I'm looking forward to experiencing the game that so many others here love.

But yeah, someone from Nev needs to throw us a bone soon. I am seeing a lot of people on the verge of mental break down.

and oh, in case you didn't know, it's actually a fluke that Jessica posted in here to answer some of the questions. How this suppose to actually work is, bunch of us post questions, then Xavier grabs the one that he thinks is important, and go about finding the answer to it and the post the answers in his special forum, here:

http://www.ryzom.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=&f=81&page=1&pp=30&sort=lastpost&order=desc&daysprune=-1

Make sure you modify the filter to show all threads.

For a bit of history about the Q&A and Xavier's (now prbly stressful) position, besure to read his introduce himself thread.

http://www.ryzom.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11783

He also posted the rules for the Q&A here:

http://www.ryzom.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13068

So I am thinking you're getting the wrong idea about these Q&A threads.

You recently patched in 4 rites. The Zorai one involves the same thing as a regular task that has been in the game since day one. Please explain why it's taken 5 months to patch something like that in, especially since the rite doesn't involve any new behavior. I'd also like to know why rites like these aren't patched in on a weekly basis? If your answer is spring cleaning, please elaborate on that further. Specifically what about spring cleaning was preventing you from publishing simple rites and what have you changed with spring cleaning that makes such a difference. Or put another way, What is the difference between publishing a rite before the spring cleaning and after the spring cleaning?

The most frustrating part is that something like that could of easily been done and published to give us something to keep busy. Instead you choose to leave us high and dry while you worked on fixing what should of been taken care of before you went live.

That leads me to another question...
What's exactly caused you to decide that the internals of the game were so messed up that you had to rewrite the game and stop pushing updates?

Is it easy or difficult to add some more titles to everyone's player, such as:

Kami Follower
Karavan Follower

Thank you.

@larwood

The next Q&A round should get published soon.

Many of us went to the e3 expo in Los Angeles and understandably we had to wait with working on the next Q&A round until the e3 was over. Now that everyone's back at work, we can continue doing our Q&A rounds again.

lawrence... you edited my posts for Foul Language??

What did I say that was foul language? I dont cuss, nor believe that it is right. Actually, nothing I said broke any rules of conduct. I did not flame, nor spam... I just voiced an honest opinion.

All I said was that unless the developers provide feedback to the players, they will lose their game, and their job. A service, that does not serve... will not be continued. I said this because of the plethera of questions, with very few answers.

But it was good to see that somebody from admin is reading these. I understand that you were busy with E3. The least you could have done was tell us that much.... open and frequent communication is what I'm asking for. Thats all.

Thankyou for noticing.

@Larwood

I tried sending you a pm to explain in greater detail why this step was necessary, but you've disabled that feature. Please reactivate it and I'll be happy to give you an explanation on our policies regarding behaviour on the forums; this thread is dedicated to questions for our Q&A rounds.

Personally I hope Rites and outposts are still being given priority, BUT, hehe there is alway a but.

As primarily a range fighter I am very curiuos if the talked about rework to range combat is still in process or has been put on the back burner again for abit?

the big range shake up happend alrdy... it comprised of hitrate skill, less mats needed for making ammo and a few changes to the stacking of ammo

some suggestions for range are even as simple as this to make it better

i think we should be able to use bleeding with slashing ammo, ignore armour with piercing ammo and slow with smashing ammo. but i put that in a suggestion 5 months ago so no point keep putting in the same suggestions =/ hopefully they will make range a less useless skill than it is :o

For jessica or Xavier

Ok, the orange monster thing (from the trailer) we will see ingame.

Yet will we see the karavan with their camps surrounded by electric fences?

hmm i have a question to add to this one it really concerns all dev screenshots... it is..... could we have a bit more info with the screenshots rather than just the pics? saves people having to ask what they are and when they may be coming and such :)

And actual official response to this question here:

We have real ambition for range fighting, as a third form of combat - something different from melee and magic - bringing an original diversity to the game. So this is a major point here : range fighting clearly needs to be deeply reworked and improved. But for that we need to finish the other big works currently in progress - the cleaning and the outposts.

I think the point is to tease us with what's coming up. They don't want to say exactly what it is and they'd prefer to have us wondering.

I don't mind a little glimpse now and some additional surprises later :D

It works perfectly too. Just look at the response it generates!

The purpose of teasing is to, stimulate our minds and kick into overdrive. I bet they love the fact they have produced a great trailer that is having this kinda affect on us!

its like a company showing you a picture of a new pc they are planing to release but not telling you the specs...... i mean its just a tower a keyboard/mouse with a screen

just as the dev screenshots are just pics we know the game has a great graphics engine we can se that everyday in game its information we want ;)

the first pic the stormtrooper wannabe could have been anything, karavan npc, players with new armour and guns or even invading aliens see what i mean? ;P

the 2nd pic for all we know could be gibakin after a day at the hairdressers

If it was invading aliens, for example, are you implying they should tell us that now?? Wouldn't it be more appropriate if they just started landing on Atys one day and we had to suddenly fight them back?

Or would you rather know two months in advance that an unknown alien race is coming, even though there's no IG way to be aware of it?

yup it would keep me intrested instead of me having to quit for 5 months after each patch as i know it takes that long till the next lot of stuff comes -.-

Concerning the encylopedia...

The was it was originally described is that the various tribes would each have specialities. So the Icon Worshippers might specialize in the crafting using Yubo parts. What would happen is a player would have to get on the good side of the Icon Worshippers (good fame level). There would be a rite giver in the tribe that would assign a rite relating to the Yubo. Upon finishing the rite, the player would have the Yubo entry in the encylopedia and be taught the skill of the tribe (so you would earn the yubo part crafting skill). Upon completion of the animal album you would get awarded a new title, zoologist for example. You then would get some sort of new skill based upon your knowledge of animals. That would lead to content.

I don't see this happening. So far the people giving the rites as well as the award have nothing to do with the entry. What happened? Will it ever function as originally described?

Question for devs (or anyone else who knows for sure): will outposts have merchants for us to use as a guild shop to sell our items in or a bit of storgage for us to deposit stuff in to like an extra GH worth of storage? as they have to have some use to us as a guild for us to want one, other than something to fight over :)

To someone out there!

No doubt you have read this (http://www.ryzom.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14937) thread which highlights some very big problems associated with this games marketing and over all "pulling power" when it comes to attracting new players.

Are you able to give us any idea on your future marketing ideas?

Also... Why is it we (well just me really but i presume this goes for most of us) have only seen the trailer that got us all so excited on this website?

I have seen flash animations on the hotmail inbox page in the past showing what other MMORPG's have to offer. Anything like this coming up?

The soloing subject is quite popular at the mo.

In one of the dev chats a while back (a long long time ago :P) there was talk of special materials that could be harvested to regenate your stats. I am not sure if I just dreamed it or not but there was talk of having 'Reg stats' as adds to equipment (like the current HP/STAM/SAP/FOCUS but to effect the regen rate).

The players would have the choice of High stats & Low regen, Low stats & High regen or a blance of the the two.

Has this been parked or is it still being planned?
