I am a new player and looking for an adult/mature guild to attach my character with.
For my character is still on newbe island and having a blast! Learning fighting/magic/crafting & harvesting. I am in it for the long run)
Also, for a fighter/magic type user which would be the best armor type to wear...light/med/heavy? I figure light or medium..less sap recovery time.
Also, if he wanted to learn to make medium armor does he need to first learn how to craft light armor, or can he just save some crafting points till able to learn medium armor crafting?

you can learn to craft anything you want right from the get-go... light armor is best for a mage... hands down.... and for melee.... long complicated debate.
Heavy if you're the main / secondary tank... half of our tanks fight in light just to save on HP / stam ... but the drains get sick at higher lvls.... so. It's all relative to lvl... team... and where you fit in best.

You can't get the medium armour plans until lvl 10 in craft, heavy armour plans at lvl 20. You don't need to learn to to craft light armour first, but you need to craft something to get the experience. Light armour is easiest and cheapest to replace when worn out or wanting a change, but you can wear any quality regardless of your constitution, so I would save your craft skill points to buy the medium armour plans when you can. Then when you leave newbie isle I'll happily take a commission for a set of light armour :D

You shouldn't have a hard time finding a guild of mature adults to join. I think one thing you'll find about the Ryzom community is that it's on average, a more mature group of players than some of the online games out there.
One important consideration is Kami/Karavan orientation. Even though it doesn't matter a great deal in the game as it is now, I think most guilds still give it consideration because it will likely be much more important with future additions to the game. Also, it's a main RP mechanism in the game.
Our guild (Ballistic Mystix) is a medium sized guild with a mix of European and NA players. We're mostly Trykers but have a smattering of other races. We are Karavan aligned but aren't fanatical about our support for the Karavan or our opposition to the Kami.
