I just picked up 50m Tracking. I hoped I could load it out with a Choice Prospect stanza to locate choice in a 50m Area...

Does not appear to work that way, it still leads me to basics, fines etc...

Can anyone explain to me what this skill does, or did I just waste 10 points?

Thanks

Just like prospecting, it will detect the selected level and lower. In time, when you get stanzas that let you look for specific types of mats, it becomes much more useful. Don't beat yourself up over it. It will get useful in time ^_^

Yeah foraging is the one tree that I have seen that, although rewarding, can be very frustrating. Just takes some time and patience

If u make a stanzas to search choice, fine, etc (simple prospection or Tracking) it will pop up the selected quality u choose if there is one but if there's not the one u would but a less one it'll pop too. What I mean is this :

U use :

Base : u found base and not everything else.
fine : fine > base
choice : choice > fine > base
excellent : excellent > choice, etc...

it's depends of the source next to u. If there is only a base source and u use the excellent Stanza, u'll pop the base source.
and if there is only an excellent one and u use the choice stanzas u'll get nothing.

and for the tracking it's the same...

if u want to track an excellent and there is a base source.. then your target we'll be the base source... ;-)

The smart use of the Tracking skill is to use the specified material u want. Ex. at a lvl u can get specified mat skill like greens, amber, etc. So your Stanzas look like that :
Prospection skill -> looking for amber -> tracking 50m(or more..) and add choice, fine, etc... then when u use it your target we'll be the amber if there is one in 50m.

Forgive me about my bad english typing, my first language is french..

So, what you're saying is, I need to combine the 50m tracking action with the prospecting action I use, and looking for specific materials would make this a better use of my time? My gal has 70 unused skill points in Forage, and you've given me ideas what to do with them :D

Humm I didn't know that doing the choice mat stanza on a tracker woudl allow you to find it. I had thought it was just always showing the nearest res.

As for the spcific meterials I had tryed to use it on my tracker in beta ( at end when they were finally avalible) and I dint find the materials at all.

It's like the prospection without tracking, if there is only a choice source and u use the fine prospection u'll don't pop the source. So --> with tracking it's same : If there's only a choice source in your 50m range and u use your fine+50m prospection u'll don't see it.

Hum... but I've to test it anyway ;) In my last post I'm sure about 50m range + specific part to find theses. But I've to confirm if the choice/fine/etc change something. I think it's logic... but we are in a MMORPG so everything is possible ;)

Ichigono think about this : Imagine u are crafting jewels, u need greens and amber so u use a Stanza Tracking 300m+specific part amber or greens and u'll be happy ! :D

Actually, my character crafts melee weapons ;) Let me get this straight; you have an action with the tracking 50m / 300m stanza along with specific part and, let's say, choice quality. This would show you where a node is that gives that material at up to choice quality, which you then have to go to and prospect for it? In other words, one action to track it, and one to actually prospect it, and THEN an action to extract it? And if I'm understanding this correctly, the tracking and prospecting actions should include the specific material stanza?

If the order of stanzas means anything, then, you might need, in this order, a) range tracking, b) specific resource type and c) desired quality. Would have to test to see if it makes a difference what order (b) and (c) put into the action; I don't see how it should, but who knows.

As you can see, I'm still kinda foggy on the whole thing, and I for one appreciate all the explanations I can get :)

Tracking is NOT prospecting...Tracking is a game of hot and cold to lead you to the node to prospect it. In Fyros lands...it is pretty much a waste of sp. You can FIND the nodes...with micro vegitation set a 10% by standing on or near the pebbles or "freckles" as some call them.

I had this skill in beta...I found it to be frustrating and use MORE focus than I could afford, once I FOUND the spot...I had to sit and regen for a while before I could look around for what it found.

Now in Matis land...I will DEFINATELY get it...I need more of a clue than "just poke around the tree over there" WHICH TREE there is only 50 million of the things??!!

I would have done foraging a tad differently. I would..for one...like a skill of "ignore lesser materials" to avoid basic nodes when looking for choice. I think at level 40 or maybe 50 you should be able to do that. I think it should be like any other skill, cost from 10 to 20 SP, and cost more focus to use it, but we SHOULD get the skill.

From a reality stand point, which this game does make ALOT of real sense most of the time, a geologist would KNOW if the area had more Choice or more Basic and would be able to see and KNOW which he was going to get.
