I applaud them for finally releasing most of these fixes. Way overdue on all accounts.
Had Nevrax been on top of their game, this "uberpatch" (by Nevrax standards) should have been released before Ring came out, and before the 15 day freebee to all inactive accounts. All the 15 day trial did was show that Nevrax was still following the "stay the course" business model. I have a feeling that a few more people might have been interested in sticking around (still probably not enough to get them out of thier bind).

Yeah, considering Aen had been in-game before, and two of the others had been in game at some point as well... overdue.

Not for me. Aen was in the game back when I played, and one of my guildies had a suit of the jungle armor that was very shexy. (especially in PR, where it appeared to be purple instead of pink. I forget the NPCs name)
I'm not sure what would make me come back to this game... I think if there were just SOMETHING in-game that gave you a sense that you were effecting something. Right now there's the XP/levels through the wide-branching skill-tree, crafting and harvesting are required to support that. and fame, which is another grind.
Your only creativity comes from picking colors and races for the crafted armor/weapons, and picking your PCs appearance at the start. oh, and role-playing, which has no effect on anything in-game. Sure, you can use RP so that another PC won't help you out of a bind... maybe you'll go to war. maybe it will cause an item shortage. but it's all dependant on the PCs you effect, which can easily be snuffed out with a person unsubscribing from the game.
one of these days I'd like an online game where I can say "yeah, I helped build the channel through the mountains and cleared out the Kitin there to secure it." (assuming there was more than one possible place to build a pass through the mountains, that there would be a possibility of failure, not just a scripted event where player involvement has no effect) or "yeah, I helped curb the invading Kitin so that they would swarm around the bloody Matis lands instead of our beloved jungle. and then they wiped out all of the smaller Matis cities. Heheheh." Not that a Matis city is that useful, what with them all crammed together. but imagine if it happened in the desert. if Dyron or Thesos fell, it would really cause problems. not being able to respawn in a safe place a on the other side of the map away from the capital. ah well, I guess it would be like the jungle then. :> we have all our bloody cities crammed together just like the Matis. :S

All 4 were in the game :p
They've redone the stats on the armour, redone the boss AI and what guards they have, added a minefield (o_O), etc

hehe yes they can put their paws on it till the receiver takes over, but they can't do much else with it so they might as well still develop I suppose if they feel like it.
what this does say to me is that there is a reason for them to keep going ie: they probably have a buyer taking the thing over and so they want it to be working and stuff if this was not the case I doubt we would be even playing this game right now

Yeah, considering Aen had been in-game before, and two of the others had been in game at some point as well... overdue.
at first, all four were really buggy and could be dragged all over, so guard for them were almost pointless. In game, yes... removed becuase of the way they were implemented.. yep. So simply claiming they were in game means nothing. Aen has been the only one that has worked decently, but it took them a while to get to that point.
Not for me. Aen was in the game back when I played, and one of my guildies had a suit of the jungle armor that was very shexy. (especially in PR, where it appeared to be purple instead of pink. I forget the NPCs name)
Name of the NPC was Pei. And he was probably one of the easiest of the NPC bosses since you could practically cliff him. again, In game, but so buggy/exploitable they took it out.
Pra and I have a similar discussion a while back regarding the free 2 weeks. During the whole 2 free weeks, several older members returned to try out the game again. I don't think a single one of them tried the ring more than once (if at all). It wasn't what interested them in the game. Questions like "Is the encyclopedia done?", "ranged still messed up?", and "any new content?" were asked instead.
To me, there were other issues that could have been fixed first that would have boosted the return to Ryzom. If an email had been sent out that said "hey, we fixed ranged combat, added all the rewards to the encyc missions and plan on adding a few new sections a month/patch, and revamped the NPC bosses and put them back in game. We've also added Ryzom ring, a revolutionary new way to play a MMO. To celebrate rings release, we've given you 2 free weeks to come see the new Ryzom" I think a bunch more people would have returned. Instead, they returned to: Ryzom they chose to leave for various reasons + Ring.

to which the answer was more like "no, no, and no".
I don't consider Ring content. Not until they make it much more versatile, include pvp in them, etc. Oddly enough, the people I've known who tried Ring agreed.
the funny part was the reply I got when I told them that none of that had been fixed: "well, its Nevrax... some things never change"

I'm looking forward the bosses, though I'm long from taking them, which is ok if you ask me :)
I was very impressed with Bloom though the lack of antialiasing makes it a bit of a wash it's still very pretty, as if Atys weren't gorgeous enough.
The hair styles, though I've only seen Matis thus far were welcome though I wasn't very fond of any added. I'd love to see more variation in styles available over time.

It does have a few large, problematic flaws (as I see it, those relating to hosting and limitations in particular). If those were improved, there is no reason we shouldn't be swamped by excellent content, except flaws in players (lack of initiative/creativity).

when i started this game there was limited free access to the ring editor I fell in love with it. I'm still learning how to use the thing but in the meantime I keep checking to see if there are any scenarios online to take a gander at as some sort of "example" of the thing in action and I can find none. I find the lack or scenarios to be a pitty to me that is one huge plus to this game and its not being used :(

Yeah, but did it have any effect? If one land had no one helping, would it have made any difference? other than some list and a chart being different? so you got to carve your name in a tree? I mean I admit it was nice to see my old gildies and guild listed on there, but... *shrug* they're not here. and ... yeah.

Ah. I wasn't around to see anyone but Aen, so I didn't know the details.

Yup. It's me, Coral. ;) (man, I haven't TOUCHED even my free character since the couple times I played soon after the subscriptions were frozen =( )
I understand they have to work a lot to make an editor, since each feature needs to be safe to allow players access to them. but bleh.
I hope they do intend to give us a full set of tools... otherwise, we're going to be expecting them to deliver the quality content. hopefully this tool is unrestricted for them, and an improvement over whatever they had before.
I dunno... I think considering how far they've gone with what they were working on, that even if their focus had been different, we still wouldn't have had enough progress to impress the old players to come back.

Nevrax has some example scenarios that you can load to see some examples. These may be high though for many players. (1 is lvl 100 i believe, the other 2 are 200+ i think).

yep i had that same experience with most. Add to that it isnt too easy to come up with a ring scenario that really keeps you attached, as nothing is to be gained for experience, or loot. raises the question, is the system lacking something, or is the community not ready for something like it...
OTOH, the ring raised quite an ammount of media interest, i don't think adding "just" other new content, like the kitin lair, would have done. so from a marketing point of view, the effort wasnt wasted at all. I think we all noticed more ppl trying out Ryzom, and quite a few moved on to the mainlands during the summer. Zora lands were busier than before...

It was an article I read about the Ring that sparked my interest in Ryzom. Having arived here I've spent... perhaps three hours, tops in the Ring. It still needs quite a bit of devolopment. Aside from the fact that to run a scenerio you must be there, leading to the lack of scenerios available to play at any given time, the objects given are limited. Plenty of plants and mobs, and I can make NPCs but short of sticking them all in a Ranger-esk camp I'm stumped. I was looking forward interior design, to buildings and villages to explore, to fun ruins and dungeons. Hardly got that

maybe I can survive long enough in a 1-100 scenario to see how they put it together. I"m only level 60 mainly due to time constraints and the fact I get sidetracked ingame by stuff that makes me not level (lotsa death due to exploring regions on my own that I probably should not hehe and then runnning back again to see what is just beyond that other hill) anyhow I will take a look this evening see if I can make something that I have in my little pea brain but am not sure if the ring in its present state can do even :)
