I'd like to play Ryzom in a Windows mode. If I go into graphics and uncheck full screen, I see the game in a Window, but the cursor does not pass out of the playing area, so I cannot maximize the window, or click outside the program.
How can I play in Windows mode and maximize that window?

I only got the game 2 days ago and have not toyed with the windowed mode, but if you have a Windows key on your keyboard, I would think that would work.

Once in windowed mode, you can switch between open programs by using Alt TAB, also, (although I have not tested it), if you press the K key, there is a keyboard command to release the mouse (aka making it available to programs outside of ryzom)

I was surprised to learn that alt-tab doesn't work - especially because in other games as long as your in-game graphic resolution is lower than your computer resolution you should be able to. Does it work for anyone else? I'm wondering whether this is graphics card related. I have a 256 ATI9800XT.

If you're in windowed mode, press U to reach the in-game configuration screen. From thre, click Inputs, then Mouse, and make sure Hardware is checked :)

if you want to use alt tab just open explorer up before the game starts it will let you alt tab between both. I use teamspeak it works the same as explorer and just keep that up all the time. I run in full screen and to get outta game i just alt-tab into TS then use the windows button to bring up my taskbar thing. just make sure u open explorer before the game.

That worked! Once I clicked "Hardware" everything worked as I'd hoped. Thank you so much!
