Hello everyone! :D
I think I have a few newbieish questions concerning both Ryzom and its forum community...


1) Why can't I have an avatar icon in this forum, and why can't I post in some of the forum areas (such as in the "General" forum)?

2) Is it true that I currently can't upgrade my free account to a full account?

3) Are there choice quality materials in the starter island?

4) If, for example, I am a matis, and someone who is a fyros gives me his armour, can I wear it or do I first need the fyros crafting armour skill?

1) Because you're on the free trial at the momemt. Paying customers get more access.

2) Right, Ryzom's previous owners declared bankruptcy so can't accept payments. We're waiting/hoping for a take-over.

3) Pass

4) You can wear stuff given to you of any race as long as you have the right stats. (right click on item to see stat requirements)
Only to craft do you need the plans.

1) you can't post as you have not got a full account, be patient hopefully things will get sorted soon.

2) It is true, at present Ryzom has no owner, and so no one to pay subscription money too.

3) not too sure about this, but I don't think so, only fine and basic

4) no, you can wear any armour or use any weapon provided you have the requisite stats or skills, check the info on the piece of equipment to see what the requisites are.

I keep hearing that people have successfully upgraded using CD Keys from the old boxed version of the game, if you can find a place to buy one. A new one, of course, a used CD Key won't do you any good...

I am very tempted to buy the game box in order to see if I can upgrade my account without waiting anymore -but first I'd like to see how the bankrupt matter will sort out in the end. However, if I end up completing all the possible quests and things to do in Silan, I don't know if I'll resist waiting any longer! :P

Welcome to Atys! It is my belief that Ryzom is still going because there are potential owners still going through the bidding and legal process in France. If no bidders had surfaced, or the bids were too low, I feel the servers would have been shut down by now. So, have faith, and keep your eyes open for the box game. :D If you need any help with quests or have any other questions, ask in uni chat, we would be happy to answer .

Some of have alts on Silan, so if you need assistance with a quest, just ask me, or in uni.

Oh, I have one little question again, about something I just noticed... may I? :P

I've noticed that during the character creation screen you can see your homin expressing some quite good facial animations (when you click the "Play" button in the left corner). However, when I use the emotes as I'm playing the game itself, there are no facial animations at all.... How so? I guess that if there's so many facial animations in the character creation screen, there is a way to make them appear in the game too? Or not?

The facial expressions are for character creation screen only...

No way to perform them in-game, unfortunately.

I have one more question! (Of a different kind, but instead of opening a new topic, I thought it would be preferable to resume this one....?)

My computer has been giving me a lot of troubles lately, clearly as if one heck of a virus was corrupting my system (even though I couldn't find where it was hiding). The main error was caused by .dll files malfunctioning (which in turn did obviously cause the malfunctioning of the whole OS).

So, as of today, I have completely and totally formatted my system and reinstalled it from zero. I have yet to re-download and re-install "Ryzom", but before doing so, I would like to ask informations about the possibility of this game causing virus, or spyware, or simply corrupting the OS in some computers. I know this is most probably not the case with "Ryzom", but since it was the only online videogame I had previously installed on my pc, I'd like to ask confirmation here in the forums: has anyone else incurred in some problems that may be related to this videogame?

On a side note, I must add that I downloaded "Ryzom" through the un-official downloader engine, because the official one had got frozen at half the job and wouldn't resume. If anything, may that have been the cause?

If anything, may that have been the cause? if by unofficial installer you mean java app called uRDM from atys.pri.ee/linux page, then that one does not install anything outside designated ryzom folder and only downloads Ryzom program/data files from servers Ryzom official installer would (except atys.pri.ee/linux/ryzom.xml file containing files needed for ryzom).
edit: to make it clear, i wrote uRDM.

I believe that official Ryzom installer also does not install anything outside designated Ryzom folder (except install shield stuff and shortcuts for ryzom, but those are normal). no .dll's goes to windows folder for example.

what caused your windows to be infected with trojan/worm, i dont know, but please do use up-to-date antivirus with personal firewall from now on and keep windows update on automatic ;-)

Maybe I have forgot to also specify how I do indeed have firewall, anitvirus, live updates, and all things set to protect my pc and make it work properly (thanks for the advice though!). That is precisely why I kept wondering what had gone wrong.

you can also try old installers (one big 1.8GiB download), but i dont know how well (if any) that will work
