Is it just me or is Ryzom rizing in the MMORPG.com game list ?
I was under the impression it was a bit lower in ranks then what it is right now. It is at position 11 in the most high Rating/Hyped MMO games. I think it was like 15 last month or so (lol WOW way down there).

Ryzom has indeed risen 2 positions (beaten CoH and Vanguard) and is now 8,13 (has been 8,12 for the past coupl of months.)
But we gotta do more than that :) Let's vote and vote mates :)
I have created 3 alts there for just that purpose...
Next step is DaoK - a semi-dead game with graphics from the nineties...

Quit cheating, Komi. :p Being in the top eight (in other words, displayed on the MMORPG.com homepage) for months way back when didn't do all that much for us.

I am currently working on an article about Ryzom that will be submitted to a couple of sites. Only problem is time, so will take a few days.

What's the point?
As long as the new owners choose to be so secretive about everything related to themselves and the future direction of Ryzom, I really would not encourage any potential players.
Point is, are you being honest when you try to promote this game at this time? Do you KNOW what the future of Ryzom is? OK, so it's free for the moment... and not having to pay for a subscription is always good, right?
I have also noticed a growing trend to tell potential new players to stop whining and question what it's all about. Is that what this community has become; asking are you here to play and enjoy the game or...
You praise the game because it's a sandbox game. Well, it seems to me that this community is defending it's playground most vigorously.
Would I like to invite friends here? Not at the moment, because I don't wish them to experience what we went through with GF. So before you go and try to make Ryzom look good in the MMORPG game list, ask yourselves why you do it

I have to agree with Karm here.
Better be careful, than overly enthusiastic.
As much as IŽd like the Game to finally succsseed, IŽd rather see some hard facts first than heaping on friends the bad experiences of the past years. :(

The point is the same as for any other mmo: having some fun. I think ppl should be able to enjoy a game they like even without having some sort of guarantees that the game will survive on the long run.
RL doesnt come with a guarantee either, and could end anytime, yet that should not prevent you from enjoying it.
I noticed some players acted as if they lost some sort of investment when the game shut down last time. They complained about lost time/effort as if they didnt get anything in return. I invested time and effort and I got fun in return, i felt sorry when the game went down but i never felt cheated.
Last but not least, the enthousiasts are doing what they can to boost the game, so they do the little they can to prevent it from going down again.

I didn't stop explicating and hyping Ryzom even while the servers were down.
I continue now because the new owner has some Nevrax in it and I expect they've learned from their past mistakes (to an extent that time will quantify). For that reason I'm willing to put a small investment of trust in them.

I have an account there but can't vote due to insufficient ranking... bleh. :(
EDIT: As to "why hype the game now while we don't know about its future?"
1) Are you a medium ? Neither am I, and I'm sure people at Spiderweb are no mediums either. We can speculate all we want, no one can predict/foretell the future of a game... otherwise I sure as hell wouldn't have bought AoC's collector edition. *still feels disgusted about it* (though, unlike Funcom, the new owners have been way better at keeping up to their promises since we first heard from them.)
2) Why hype the game now ? Well because it's the best time to get some people to try an unlimited version of the game we love, and if we don't want it to go down the drain again, THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS TOO MUCH MARKETING !

agreed Karm *sighs*. Also noticed alot of guilds pimps especially in the lakelands. In the time it took to run to the GH and back once, I noticed 3 homins that were guildless before have been ninja recruited!
So have to ask, how much of the help you give is for actual help and how much is for attempted lures for power?
*had an alt, was offered 5 invites in 3 days all refused*
sorry theres propbably a better way of wording what i want to say...

Wow, you can give them their beloved game back, but you can't force them to be happy, can you?

Also in agreence with Karm. We need to figure out what is going on with the game before we promote it and get tons of people in. If the game fails again we stand no chance of brining it back if we over promote the game.

I don't see the issue about tempting people to a game which future is not clear yet coz thats somehow the point about future isn't it? (who says that AoC will survive or develop in a way anyone wants?)
If long standing players like Acridiel from Leanon stop promoting the game with their friends I think it will become quite hard for Ryzom. Cause what sign do you give when even the biggest fans tell their friends: "You rather wait a little coz who knows how long its gonna survive this time" With that attitude it will be indeed hard to make the game surviving.
Or do you tell your friends: "Dunno bout this eve, it could be that its not gonna be such a great party or it even stops early. You rather stay home and watch TV."
Although I didn't enjoy AoC very much I would not just say the time I spent there was wasted just because I won't play anymore.
So, how can anyone say time was wasted when he actually enjoyed the time? oO
And yes, I'm honest promoting the game by saying: I love it!

Uhm sorry, you misinterpreted me there.
IŽm all for seeing some facts and such.
But I never stopped promoting, wouldnŽt make much sense for me to create new Videos then, wouldnŽt it? ;)
Naw, IŽve only come to tell people about the game with a bit of salt in the mixture.
"You may test it now for free, but beware that it may be going down someday again, like all games do. It has risen from the dead two times now, that must mean something IS good in it, but its simply not for everyones taste and all I can tell you is try for yourself. - And maybe youŽll even help it not to go down once more ;) "
See, its that easy.
And of course I tell them its a GREAT game! :p
And besides I actually refrain from voting more than once on MMORPG.com, especially by creating an alt for that purpose only, thats quite dishonest in my book.

It is dishonest I agree. But if that's what's needed to get more people into this wonderful game i don't really care... It's not about ends justifying the means really it's just that there's no way for a special game like ryzom were yubos don't drop swords and all to make it up there...

And you do send that message, but not quite the way you intend. The message you end up sending is "Ryzom players know they need to cheat to hype their game because it's no good". We all know that isn't correct, but the outside observers do not.

What do outside observers know about who exactly voted and how?
With all due respect that seems a bit far-fetched...
While we are certainly free to discuss certain moral scurples in these forums it does not need to be reflected anywhere else...
Basicly we all want the same - not to have a third bankruptcy on our hands...

I think people cant let anything "slip" around here :P. The whole vote thing was rather childish, well intended and no harm done. Calling that dishonest is harsh, bordering on rude, and all the moral discussion is basically much ado about nothing.

They may be watching this forum. Some people scout a game's forum before they play.
Some people might be dumb enough to cheat and then post about it on external websites, i.e. MMORPG.com itself. One never knows.
