"I dare not reveal what I know, not yet. There is a spy planted in the royal guard, reporting back and warning my so-called lord whenever attention is drawn his way.
I may have made an error in coming to such a conspicuous city as Yrkanis... But it was necessary. When I have determined who the spy is, I will bring my knowledge before the court.
If I am able to find the spy.
If I have not been recaptured... or killed out of hand.
I am writing these memoirs against that eventuality, praying to Jena above that if I fail in my quest, this will be found and the truth shall be revealed. If I should fail, then these pages will be the only chance for those souls whom I was too weak to rescue."
Laidrisa hisses as her trembling hands make a blotch on her page. Taking a few deep, calming breaths she gently dabs at the excess ink, then blows softly on the page to dry her words. Taking up her pen again, her eyes wander over the last sentence. Several moments pass as she struggles to bring the words forth again, but finally she succumbs, closing her plain wooden writing box and nestling herself into the bedroll in the corner of her rented room
