In first place, sorry about my English but i'm French...

I want to know who wants to play ryzom with a native client of ryzom for linux (that's mean without wine)

(of course we can take this for macOSX)

Original Post is here : http://forums.ryzom.fr/showthread.php?t=34173

Option 1 mostly suited me, but not really. I play on windows more often than linux (cygwin largely suits my *nixy needs while in windows), and I use wine when I'm in linux. I'd love to have a native linux client though, since I'd rather be in linux more than windows, but windows tends to be more convenient right now.

Peace,
- Sui

If this meant that Ryzom development is further watered down by creating and supporting another platform then absolutely not.

Lets get the windows version finished first and if there is any spare dev's leftover crate some new content please :D

I play on Linux but don't expect or want a native client. It's easy enough to run Ryzom in Wine that allocating development time and effort to porting would be mostly pointless.

The native client on Linux would be developped mostly by the NeL community, so it wouldn't really "water down" the development of future patches.

Also (as taken from the french forums) did you know that the Ryzom devs are using the most recent version of NeL as it gets worked on by the open source community, which means it gets updated every patch ? It's awesome to know that the NeL community's work is actually being used. :D

If it slows down the process of further development of Ryzom game (and it sure will happen) - than there is no need. Wine is well enough.
And if you don't like to use wine - you can always make a small partition on your hdd for winxp. This is not such a big fee for the opportunity to play this wonderful game...

I don't think that develop a native client is very hard for ryom... with NeL, openGL etc...

well, Ryzom itself isn't under OpenGL license, so the converting to Linux client would have to be done entirely by the devs, which means less time for them to work on new patches :)
