I've noticed two people have mentioned this so far, and no one has even bothered to comment on it yet. Has anyone even looked at how these changes affect the starting player? Has anyone bothered to make a lvl 1 char and TRY to play with the new combat system? I'm guessing almost no one has, because if they had, there would be way more commentary on the forums right now. Firstly, no lvl 1 player, whether they be a mage, a melee, or both, can kill a suckling yubo now. Period, end of story. If you don't believe me, go try it out and see for yourself. I've already watched 3 seperate people attempt it on the fyros newbie island. Each one managed to get a suckling yubo down to 60% health, before they died. Now, you tell me, is this intentional? I find it hard to believe that anyone, regardless of what they may have played in the past, would find such an arrangement to their liking. No one is going to want to die to the smallest mob in the game continuously for their first day in game. And since I haven't seen a single post regarding any upcoming changes to be made to the combat system, I'm more than a little concerned over whether or not there will be any new players at all at this point. Who's going to play if they can't lvl their char in anything other than harvest and craft?
Highly confused as to how this might have been overlooked.

Look at the euro-english boards there is a thread there about the uber yubos. I honestly wonder if the developers are hiding on the servers and waiting to hear: "Level 3 fighter looking for team to kill baby yubos, please send tell!"
Then they will all break out into laughter and wet themselves.
Hmm... I wonder how close that is to the mark?

Just imagine how much xp that suckling yubo would give to a level 1 now...
The ones outside of Fairhaven give me 3xp at level 53 elemental magic...
Suckling yubo's are the ubah mob of newb lands.... Good xp lots of hit points, doesn't hit very hard...

hey guys im the guy who realised this problem, my orginal char was delted somehow i dont know but i made a new one and so far i havent gained a single level in magic or fight. I have had to harvest the entire time, its pretty rediculous and the gms and guides think that aswell. For the moment I cant fight magic or craft, cant craft because the prices are so high for every single material and you dont exactly make money off of harvesting until you are alot better at it.
Its sickening to think that brand new players will never be able to progress magic or fight ever again.
(that is if they dont fix it soon)
From reading the customer service thread I can understand that this week has been a disaster for nevrax, i just hope they can fix this ASAP as harvesting is getting a little tedious at 45 on zorai island :P

I did this. And YES, a naked (in the CRAP armor you spawn in...might as well be neked) and wielding a crappy Q10 dagger of lightness, I was owned in about 20 seconds. I DID get the Yubo to roughly 60% health before he killed me.
These beasts now have WELL over twice the HP that they used to have, hit at LEAST twice as hard. One Kindness is that they are NOT social.
Ok, I DID manage to eventually kill one...how you ask, well I would LOVE to say easy...but it wasn't.
FIRST. I started with ONE magic action, one harvest and one craft (my standard start up package). I harvested my way to 11 or 12. Then go to HEAVY armor dealer, buy vest, pants and boots. Then craft with left overs from foraging OR forage until you have at least 20 of two or three materials. Then...Craft until you reach roughly 6 or 7th level. Sell ALL of your crafted junk. Buy a sword Q20 DAMAGE or SPEED..if it is there. Buy a Q20 dagger of damage OR speed.
NOW...Find the "dodge" or Parry button. Dodging is BUSTED do NOT bother with it, Click it to Parry...TRUST me on this one.
OK now look for a Suckling Yubo...IF you can find one that has been weeny gingo battled, and therefore softened up, DO IT...if not, get ready to die, but try anyway.
Equip all the heavy armor, the sword AND the dagger (left hand), and get far enough from guard to actually get the xp. Now pray, I don't care to what, ask for a swift death, of either the yubo, or YOU. Pull it with acid damage one, Now attack the Yubo.
I managed to kill the Yubo ALL decked out. Took one or two tries, but I leveled when he died.
NOW...I am assuming you leveled. Get yourself to the trainer and NOW!!!
Train self heal HP one. Trust me on this one. More hp will gain you ONE more Yubo hit...which is NOT much...HP heal will gain you TEN hits give or take. You can see why I said get the heal.
Next fighter level get increased damage. Mash this at start of EVERY battle, but be ready to hit HP heal and the crossed swords (when Stamina tanks, hit the swords to go to standard attack).
Ok now craft with the yubo looting, and get another bit of HEAVY armor. I would go with ballanced stats OR parry mod. Now...find another Yubo. You get the idea. Rinse repeat.
IF and when you die, which if a WEENY gingo finds you...you are short business for him. Grab your pick, strip and go to town on a node or two. With Q20 extraction...ONE node, POOF no dp.
I was up to Weanling Yubos by level 7 fighter.
MAX hps ASAP, Regen is kinda pointless since you will die and FAST if you don't have enough HP, but it will lower downtime, which it is silly but newbie fighters WILL have downtime. HP heal two is ok, but Increased damage is a MUST.
Mash that sucker and hold on tight.
I lucked out and saw a suckling yubo and a weeny gingo in battle. I helped the Yubo and got a VERY weakened Gingo which took TWO hits to kill. WOW 2k xp WOOT. And level 8 fighter.
It aint easy, and the days of running around noobieland neked are pretty much OVER. And if you "don't DO crafting" LOL you are pretty much SOL.

This is almost word for word what I did last night. It's the only way to get any Melee SP and I'm 100% sure it's broken. How would a newbie know about spending SP cross classes this tactically?
I have yet to get anywhere with magic though...

Heh, new character was made on my account yesterday just for the funo f it. Yubo's used me to wipe the snot from their noses. All I could say was glad I had a level 11 mage that could take a yubo out. Of course, I used to be able to solo Capryni, but I don't think I"ll try. LOL

ffs - this is very sad when a level 1 player cannot kill the very first mob you encounter in the game...

I created a Matis yesterday and solo'd from melee 1 to melee 15 with only 1 death (two puny gingos). The first 9 levels of harvest I noticed I was in a "protected mode" with source modes of 11 and 14 (slow decay, fast decay, no explosions or gas). I got to harvest 13 with only 1 death.
Magic was a similar experience. I did take every oppurtunity to get HP upgrades and used Self Heal very frequently.
It was certainly more fun than trying to bring down the 434k debt my main has. I wasn't getting 3k exp and there was downtime as I had to regenerate. But overall the experience was a pleasure.

Well you're either bugged or bs'ing because you're one of the rare ones that's been able to level up a new toon. The majority though of people out here haven't been able to and are tired having their level 2 toons dying to suckling yubos. Why have a noob island if it's just as difficult as the mainland?

Let me just respond to the suckling yubos with 200 hp. This is a known issue and is not intended to be this way. It is currently being addressed, so stay tuned for more info kiddies.

Maybe people should try rerolling and see the changes for yourself before believing all the cry babies that frequent this forum. I rerolled after Patch 1 but before the following patch. I made level 6 in about 15 minutes.
I had no problem killing yubo after yubo. After I got to level 6, I realized... yep another cry baby thread with no substance. Yes, it took 3 nukes to kill instead of 2 as it used to be, but its hardly game stopping for newbie island.
The key word here is *strategy*. In my case I was using Acid1, so I used maximum distance.

Thanks Cerest for letting us know that it's being looked into and that it's also an issue and and that we're not just being cry babies as some *rolls eyes* "way too uber for me to be in their presence people" would like to believe.

I was just going to ask if it would be better to relearn the combat system from the beginning, and just create a new character. Well, now I know my answer.
How the hell can I possibly suggest anyone play this game when the easiest mob is, 99% of the time, unbeatable?
Well done, Nevrax.

I would suggest you suggest they play this game later today, or perhaps tomorrow, after this known problem is rectified.

I did!!!! I have tried to create a new 1st liv char! got slaughtered by a single yubo for 22 times!! then I resorted to harvesting! and DIED THREE TIMES!! then tried for crafting.... thankfully I didn't die there but I finished materials... and I had no dappers to get more. so I tried of make quest!! I DIED!! I took no quests for kill, collect materials or forage since was too deadly.. a simple DELIVERY quest and gues what?!?!?!?? ragus spawned around me while I was running all carefully to the other town and I DIED!!!!!
I've called in a friend asking to make a new char.. we grouped.. fought a single yubo and.. WE DIED!!!!!!!
no wonder that all my friends who tried the game lately did call me names and told me to stop wasting their time.

I ran into this last night. I made a pure mage, all three starting packs in Magic, and went after a suckling Yubo.
Holy cow! Acid 1 spells don't do damage for spit! I would have the yubo down to 80% health and then he would wipe the floor with me. Never having played a mage in this game I was horrified to find out that once a creature is in H-to-H your spells will fail 50+% of the time.
By shear luck, I ran into a friendly fellow (I think his name was Ezekial) who was kind enough to give me some weapons. Without that gift, I would have deleted my character by the end of last night.
As it is, I'm leveling fasting in Fight rather than Magic. Is this how things are supposed to work? Is it impossible to play a pure mage?
Anyway, I'll keep plugging away and see how things go. Wish me luck.

It gets worse.. crafting is broken for newbies too since the Overseers aren't paying enough to make up for the materials. So newbie crafters are kinda stuck with no way to level, unless they dig up all the materials themselves.
Yes, the developers are responsive to problems, and yes they'll get this all fixed and rebalanced within a few days or weeks. But didn't anyone on the dev team try levelling up a new character on the test server? Haven't they by now figured out why everyone uses two-handed weapons instead of shield+1-hand?
Didn't they notice when fighting a one-star Weeny Kipee with a mid-30 level combat character the need to sit around healing for five minutes afterwards healing (boring), because the rapid-heal power had to be used during the combat to stay alive? (That'd be fine for an even-con, by the way.)
Ryzom has wonderful stuff (animal behaviors, environment/weather/seasons, stanza system, ...), but Nevrax seems to be lacking in "game sense". Maybe in a month or two they will have a better sense of how their own game works. I hope that's not too late.

Gillest... How? You are way stronger than me and I kill bayings all the time. Nasty when they have a javing with them. Before patch it was hard, now all but impossible for me to solo a javing with a baying. But a couple bayings!! I just circle attack when there is more than one. Hope it goes better for you. It is not popular, but I have no problem with this patch (after the mini patch).

I went the route of creating a new character on Tryker Island, just to see how hard it was to lvl a noob character, and buddy, that yubo made short work of me.
Ok, well, then, I go forage some, gather some mats to augment my supply of wondermat and then craft boots until I'm out. Sell and buy a sword, and go try it again. No dice, yubo was down to around 50% before I died.
All righty then, spend harvest and craft SP to boost my HP and regen, as well as self heal 1, then go try it again. Had to pop the self heal, but I managed to kill yubo. Had to do it again, since I had dp to work off, so I had to wait until the self heal was back up. I'm glad I waited, because next yubo still had me down to about 50hp before I popped it and managed to kill it.
After that, I lvled in fight and immediately went and got Increase Dmg 1. Now, I'm able to kill those yubos, many times without using self heal, but it is still sometimes needed. The next step in that particular mission is to kill a weeny goari, and at Fight 4, I'm just not up to it yet...
I remember when I started my main on Fyros Island, and she was able to barehand the yubo with over half her life left... no sp spent from foraging or crafting, just straight out fisticuffs. Patch 1 did a real number on us... I hope the damage is undone by this next minipatch. My main is 82 2handed melee, and to kill anything that gives even halfway decent xp (Strong Kipee/Kizoar, around 1300 or so xp), she HAS to have her self heal up, or she dies. That's a little much, don't you think?
