Yes, indeed, when you read a lot of threads on this forum, it seems like everyone is whining about shortcomings (as if they project their own shortcomings on the game :P)
And someone said that there were only whine-posts on the forum and no people posted things like "Ryzom rocks!" .. he even used this as an argument that Ryzom wouldn't be a good game!
NONSENSE! Ryzom rocks! :D
And so, as a couterweight to all the whining threads, here is the oppurtunity for everyone to state their opnion about the positive things of Ryzom :)
Although it feels quite pointless to ask people not to go on any flaming frenzies within this thread, I still ask it :) please don't change this positive thread into a negative one, thank you :)

Even with it's shortcomings, I love this game. When I'm on my way home from work I anticipate logging in for a few hours of fun with my guild and friends.
Ryzom is fantastic. From here it can only get better.

It rocks like Cassanovas love wagon during an earthquake!
Bravo for Ryzom. Keep plugging away Nevrax. Don't let the doom merchants and naysayers get you down. This game is great. When I get home tonight I'll be putting my money where my mouth is and signing up for 6 months.
You can stick the EQs and WoWs where daylight never reaches. Ryzom is original, complex, visually stunning and so much fun.

The future content (read game history and future events, new areas or mobs that pop up etc, not JUST quests, missions and having the NPC's in town do something other than trip you up or lag you out. How about they randomly spout a bit of game lore if you try to chat with them.)
The skill system is nothing like ANYTHING I have ever seen before...In Ryzom, if you want to be it all you can. I have betaed or played game from ALL over the world and have yet to find a game that had a WORKING skill system like this AND crafting.
GM staff, Ok I am an NA player, and I LOVE our GM and forum staff. But I am rather certain that the Euro GM staff is at least as good. On the NA server, the time from when you hit the button to send a petition to the first tell is LESS than a full minute. Let that one soak in, LESS than one minute. First time I got THAT fast of a reply I just could not believe it. Add to that the fact that the GM staff is respectful and can actually speak the language of the server they work on, and normally act like they have SOME kind of a clue. And you end up with the best IN game Customer service team in the HISTORY of MMORPG's. (there have been a few games that there was not a GM in game presence other than to play the role of an event character)
Not sure how friendly the British crew is, but I can't imagine you all being that much different than us Americans. Our community is suffering a LITTLE with this Patch one hang over, but we are still more helpful, caring and mature than ANY other game I have ever played. I can't even begin to tell you what a serious breath of fresh air that is.
Magic is not grossly limited, nor is it grossly overpowering. Melee is not too weak or too over powered. Yes Range needs a tweeking here and there, but it is not a hopeless cause.
The Crafting system is a gem. It is MUCH more fun and rewarding than either EQ or Horizons. In EQ you would have to slaughter the mobs that dropped the materials for literally weeks on end to gather enough to MAYBE get a level or two. And the success rate in EQ is slightly more than the birth rate of albino cojoined twins. In horizons the tedium of getting to a level in crafting that is workable is about as bad as watching the grass grow. And since ALL the items look EXACTLY alike in Horizons, it is not nearly as rewarding. The ability to craft various different qualities of armor, various different weights of armor, and various different racial armors and mix and match to your hearts content basically has ENDED the attack of the killer CLONES.
I enjoy the ability to craft an item that is the SAME Q level and grade level, but more suited to a dodging player than a parrying player. Or a sword that is lighter, faster but not quite as damaging. The customization of stats on a weapon is UNHEARD of in crafting systems in NA games. Plus I think that it would be VERY possible to have an event where the materials that were quartered would make an item that looked slightly different, and had a slightly higher stats than the "run of the mill", and I don't think that they would have to code TOO much to do all that.
I DO miss the mixed nationalities of EQ, I found it very interesting to be able to play on the same server as Brits, Aussies, French, Norwegians etc. Something about the mixing of cultures and personalities just hit me well.
The graphics in Ryzom are different and fresh. The theme of Ryzom is NOT fantasy realm part four thousand. You can SEE the world growing around you. ANd I mean the PLANET, not the gaming realm only. In Fyros newbie lands I HEARD the huge branches groaning over head. It was as if the planet was crying. And the theme is not the same old warmed over Sci fi either. I REALLY like the way the blended the two without it becoming warmed over split pea soup.
Yes I have a FEW dreams about TINY changes I would like to see in game. Like I am Fyros, but I want to try on some of the Tryker looks, or maybe a Matisian pony tail. I would like to see piercings in game. It is hard to see a tribal race that does NOT pierce something on their bodies. It would not have to be extreme, something like a nostral piercing like India does. The model would only need a TINY dot of color in the right place.
But these changes are dreams for the far distant future, like a year from now.
I think that eventually travel is going to HAVE to be improved in some way. And I recall seeing something about Tryker ships, which makes the Pirate caps make a bit more sense.
YES this game rocks. I did NOT buy EQ2, and won't buy WOW either. And I have left every other game I was playing to play this game. I am NOT one of those instant gratification type of Americans. I understand that sometimes the fruit is sweeter if you have to wait for it.

How does Ryzom rock?
What can you do apart from kill mobs over and over, chat and craft?
The content isn't in yet! So how can the game rock?
So you are either lying or easily (very easily) pleased. And I'm not saying Ryzom is a bad game, but to say it rocks in it's current state is pathetic.

Heh, still was worth a try Vaynen...
Grats calling someone you don't know a liar, Meyithi.
*applauds*
I also claim it rocks, the content isn't in? Where's the problem? There's a "on" swith on your brain, use it to put your imagination to work.
Let's go kick those kitins in the rear as a pre-emptive strike, and let those pay for all the homins their specie killed!
And then let's go hunt some yubos, we'll craft warm boots with their fur for cold winters, and sell these to Matis lands so they can run through snow without getting cold feet.
This game already rocks, and i'm looking forward to patch 2 to make it even better :)

The content isnt in yet?
My god, what have I been doing all this time? Did I imagine all the missions, exploring, hunting, harvesting, crafting, trading and the like that I have done. Are my memories of battles with various nasty monsters the result of the ingestion of mind-altering substances? If this game had no content I would have managed to log in and do what exactly? How did the people who are level 200+ get there with no content I wonder....hack the server to up their level?
/sarcasm off
Sure we want more quests, most of us are looking forward to the G v G and Outposts but to say the content isn't there is preposterous. We have oodles of skills to test and develop, lands to explore, weird and wonderful creatures to do battle with, dozens and dozens of items to create, mats to find, fame missions to make a name for ourselves. I'd like to see more, and in time I'm sure we'll get it. But in the meantime there's plenty of things to keep me having fun.
Just some of the reasons I think it rocks - beautiful graphics, a world that is truly alive, customizable actions, no restrictions through template choice, great community, original scenario, l33t p1k35 0f d00m and a hot chick on the front of the box...I could go on but I'm gonna go and play cos I love it ;)

There's content everywhere and its made by the players. That's one of the best things about this game. The players can make the content. So what if the additional bits that come from Nevrax aren't in. That's not what interests me anyhow. What I'm interested in is what the players come up with.
The players are the story. That's the best part. No other game could ever claim as much.

You are all talking about generic MMORPG content, you know, the content every other MMORPG has that defines it as an MMORPG.
Above that, where is the content that makes Ryzom "Rock!"?
Quests, the game defining quests are not in the game yet, those "quests" in now are pathetic, basic "collect" this or "Kill" that. Hands down beaten by every other MMORPG in the market on this count. Won't always be this way but as for now, how can Ryzom "Rock!" in comparrison to other MMORPG's when the quest system isn't in yet?
"There's content everywhere and its made by the players. That's one of the best things about this game. The players can make the content. So what if the additional bits that come from Nevrax aren't in. That's not what interests me anyhow. What I'm interested in is what the players come up with.

Erm, that's what defines an RPG, you know, "Role Playing Game"! If that's one of the the best things about this game, then Ryzom is in trouble, because you are supposed to do that IN EVERY RPG OR IT AINT AN RPG!!! <Bangs head against wall>.
"The players are the story. That's the best part. No other game could ever claim as much."
Eh? Did I hear that right? No other game could clam as much? LOL! That's the same for every MMOG ever, never mind MMORPG! OMG!
Good gravy, I can't beleive somebody really said that! That just proves my point about Fanboi's hands down, I'm off now, I need not say any more, that says it all....

>Eh? Did I hear that right? No other game could clam as much? LOL! That's >the same for every MMOG ever, never mind MMORPG! OMG!
Erm... well, as far as computer based RPGs go no, that's not true. Even MMORPGs lack severely when it comes to player made content, rather spoonfeeding you plot, assigning you quests and so on. Player input is minimal. Thus far I've found Ryzom far more accomodating of player's ideas an event set ups, very supportive and helpful.
The only place you'll find truly player created/interactive games is in tabletop RPGs and _perhaps_ some games of Neverwinter Nights.

Well, I said it would be pointless to ask, and someone proved me right hehe..
Still only one person here that tried to drag this thread into the dark abyss of negativity, many thanks to everyone here to keep it up, high and flying!
It seems that everyone who posted negative things about Ryzom, responded in a condescending manner to others who said Ryzom wasn't that bad at all.
I think it's that WYSIWYG mentality that narrows a lot of people's view of things. Even those who have left, saying they had no reason to stay anymore, still claimed though that "Ryzom has potential"
I'll be here to see that potential come through!
Thanks for this post, Zzei!

After being on Beta with WOW and i have been playing Linage2-Ryzom has no threat from these games!.....It's TRUE.
WOW is so plain and your char is so limited in the way you can make him up face, hight, hair + And Linage2 is even limited than WOW.
If Ryzom devs can keep players interested and a good solid story line/no more daft (killer) patches that lost a lot of players then i can see good things for Ryzom...Dont get me wrong Ryzom has a way to go to pull gamers in and i still think it went to the shops to early for a full game! Ryzom still needed a bit more beta testing for me...just look at the PC MAG reviews.
BUT
Ryzom Keep it up!
Gamers will always look at other games but if the one they put aside to look at a new game is good they will come back...

Hallo everybody!!!
I have played this game from april and i can say that every bit of development has amazed me and made me more inlove with the game than before...
I love the fact that there is no cap on new skills, i love to try new things, i love to be able to do a little bit of all.
I don't have to be very good at anything, i am not here to bragg about my levels, i just want to be allowed to do a bit of everything. One day i will be slaying mobs using a huge pike i have crafted myself, another day i will have fun killing a bunch of yubos at the same time with a launcher one of my friends has crafted for me, the next day i will be nuking those yubos with magic and another day i will keep my team alive with my heals. And when i am tired of fighting, i can just go explore the beautiful Atys and search for new places to harvest mats to craft me and my friends new weapons and armor with.
Patch One???
Yes, the mobs have become much harder and dangerous. And yes, the balance of the game has changed and the mobs i knew were too easy and boring have now become dangerous again. Well, that only great news to me, that only means i have yet another challenge, i still have new things to learn. If i do survive a mob i am glad that i used all that i know to defeat it. And if i don't survive a mob i once could easily kill, well, then i have a good laugh and go try again, using different skills and adjusting every time again.
DP???
I have died numerous times in a row, and had numerous times a huuuuuuge DP. Half an hour tops of harvesting and i got rid of it. I need the mats to craft anywayz, so that wasn't lost time.
Who cares that i didn't gained an extra level while harvesting, i am in for the fun and that i always have.
Ryzom community?
Well i can honestly say that i have NEVER met so many nice and friendly people as in here. Love all my new friends and they make me forget a hard day at work or any fatigue when i log in, they are wonderful people.
GMs?
Every time i send in a suggestion they reply within minutes and tell me they have received my suggestin and THANK me for sending it.
Future?
Yes, there is still a lot of balancing to do and the patches every few days only proove that the devs are working hard and with entousiasm to make the game more fun for us...
I can hardly wait for Patch 2 and for the new things to come, but in the meanwhile, i will have fun and keep doing different things every day and enjoying myslef as i have till now.
And i could go on and on about this, i probably will be back here telling about other things i love about Ryzom, but there is an invasion going to happen and i don't want to miss any of it.
Greetings, Missylee

Hi, I would just like to say that I have noticed that there are even more "Ryzom sux0rs OMGWTF!!!!" threads in the public forum than there are here, so I decided to try to replicate the spirit of this thread in there. If you guys could post on there as well I would appreciate it, and I'm sure those people who are wanting to hear the good things about Ryzom will too :)

Hey dont feel sorry for me!...If you pay £30 for the game and then £8+ every month yes i want content(like i said in my post!) but i also want the game to look good..you may call it eye candy but there are so many games out now trying to get your dosh £! that games need to have eye candy as you put it along with the content.PEEPS want more for their money, take WOW It must of spent a lot of time and money on the trailer coz WOW looks fantastic but go on to the game and man it's just not the same wooden i would call it just like the trees in it...
LINAGE2 i still play and it's a twin of Ryzon looks as if it's made by the same people its so alike...BUT the char you make is very limited i bumped into myself no end of times! and they run like someone has given then a kick between the legs...Sorry but it's true! but i play it coz i brought the game and i gotto give it a fair go just like i did with WOW....I Play EVE-ONLINE now no other space type online game can touch it not even Star warz coz it's got the lot.. candy and all and ill have a bite of that anytime....
