So I made it to the mainland today and no real quests yet and no encyclopedia. Any ideas on when that'll get implemented? I thought it was a go live feature.

I'll have to check on that. Let me get back to you to see if the devs have an ETA on it.

This will not be in patch one guys. I have the list of what's going to make it into patch one and I should be able to post it tomorrow.
(I am waiting to confirm a few small items before posting - don't want to cause any confusion... smile)
thanks!

Not in patch one?
Very dissapointing. :( There's only so much you can build up your char before boredom sets in.
I hope it's in patch 2, and I hope patch 2 is not two months away.

I totally agree. That's very disappointing. However it might not be all that bad IF the first patch has story stuff in it to keep us busy.

Well it depends on how often they patch. Every week, 2 weeks, month ?
I hope patch 1 adds some background texts in game.

There is enough to do in game for a few weeks. You also don't have to power level. Those types of players tend to get burnt out fast. Enjoy the journey.

Not JUST the journey, but the landscape traveled. :)

I'm looking foward to reading this. Do you know what the patch schedule is going to be like? Will it be monthly or some other arrangement?

Yeah I noticed the people that BEG for content are the very people that rush past the content at light speed. Hard to notice things when you are moving that fast. Plus content to one player is clutter to another. This I found when I played Earth and Beyond, the storyline was RICH, in fact the storyline was just about the ONLY thing that game had. But people moaned and whined about "No content" in forums to NO end, turns out they meant Leet Loot NOT story line or any of that.
This game has ALOT to offer that other games didn't even THINK of, like the visuals that you can't kill (scorpions, snakes, little flying things, fireflies and such). As far as IN game story line, not there yet I think, but there is MORE than plenty out of game. The manual has some of it, and there are stories from the devs on the forums.
I would like music, but not the canned EQ fight music, PLEASE not that *fingers in ears*. And PLEASE make the musical scores longer than about ten or 20 seconds, a few minutes of that length repeated ad nauseum and I do turn my puters speakers off. But if you made the scores about a minute or two long and then had the score change in various locations, I would not get tired of it as quickly.

Lyrah, ever considered to collect your posts and put them in a "Real NICE stuff about Ryzom"-Thread?
As far as i could see, what you wrote was enlightened to read and a joy for my SoR-filled heart.
So many people, be it fans or not are whining over stuff that is mostly minor important to the overall gaming experience. Stumbling over your nice posts made me smile over your enthusiasm and it wouldn´t be wrong if other people have that chance too!
:)
With regards...

Background story does not equal storyline content. Period. Sure, I know about how we got here and who the major players are, but that's it. The background story only serves to bring up more questions. Questions that I should be able to answer in game (though not immediately :)). I want to know where the Kami and Karavan came from, who Jena is and why she looks human, and tons of other questions that cannot be answered yet. Eve Online has an AMAZING backstory. But that's it. There's no other way to answer the mysteries in game.
For most low-brow MMO players, new mobs equals new content. Us storyline people are left in the dark. That's fine, but for my dime to stay here, I need some storyline.
Is this game rich in environment? Absolutely. Is it gorgeous to walk around in? Yep Am I excited for the future? You bet your ass I am. There's a ton of places I haven't been yet and am working my way to explore, but I'd like to have a reason to go there than just for screenshots. :)

I agree. The game looks awesome. Playing it is also fun. But I'm going to be very honest and say that with out an active story IN GAME I won't be here for the long haul. The promise of story content is the reason I am playing this game. Without it Ryzom really does't offer much to keep me interested for a long period of time.
I am patient and will wait some. But I'm not going to wait 3 months to get some story content. I did that with City of Heroes and it never came. I won't do it again.
