It seems that the devs slipped in the encylopedia without telling us that it's officially in the game yet. I'd like to make a few coments/suggestions about it.
First off after seeing how it works, I really like it. It adds a ton to the game and looks like it will make many parts of Atys come to life. I am confused on a few things though.
1) How do I get the actual article to appear? I can get the entry and have gotten all of the pre-reqs but can't get the big bubble.
2) It doesn't seem like the articles really match the npcs and tasks that make them open up. Are they suppose to match?

I have noticed the same things and I agree completely.

Gratz to the first 10 who found them, they will receive a Saga of Ryzom

We hope you enjoyed our christmas easter egg ;o)

i'd like to have a section where we can add stuff ourselves, so we can explain stuff on the map more than the markers do
or even add other notes of our own

I've done a few of these too, and I believe the big bubble comes from the rites...which are coming in the third part of patch 2 on jan 6th I believe. Either way, it'll be in before I can play again. :(

I'm with you on number 1 here. I've been going all over the Majestic Garden today doing missions in the off hope that one of them will make an entry appear in the encyclopedia. After 40 seperate missions only 5 entries are in my encyclopedia.
One NPC gave me two entries in the heading Creatures -> Ragus. Funny part was, One was a kitin mission and one was a gingo mission. Neither mission had anything to do with killing Ragus. Granted this will make people do more missions but the hit or miss nature of actually getting an entry in your encyclopedia may deter some people.
My only concern so far is that all the missions that have added entries to my encyclopedia and that of others in my guild have been kill missions. The ability to get kill missions from an NPC is directly related to your melee level so if all the encyclopedia missions are related to kill missions alot of people that didn't want to are going to have to become melee fighters just to be able to access encyclopedia entries in higher level zones. Even though I have 200+ in forage, I can't get kill missions in Knoll of Dissent so I know it is not based on highest level becuase others in my guild can get the kill missions and they have melee over 100.

Thanakar ... some of our guildies have gotten enclopedia entries from message delivery misisons, and I have heard unconfirmed reports about some crafting.

Bah, over 10 people have done the Ritual Missions already... can someone give me some clues as to get a start on them?

Do you have to go back and do all the old missions again or will a L150 mission give the same info as a L50?

No one has done the ritual missions. People have just done normal task missions which in turn open up encylopedia entries. The actual articles are only going to be available when the rites missions get put in. And the best policy is to just go do every mission you can.

I'm happy to hear that Jivalax.
I have three that are ready to go and one that is 1/2 ready
Creatures
Ragus (just need the big bubble)
La Karavane
Karavan Story 1 (just need the big bubbel)
Karavan and Fyros (1/2 done, need 150 melee to get the other half)
The Kitin
Kizoar (just need the big buggle)
Shroomie and I spent roughly 8 hours doing all the missions we can handle and this is all we came up with for now. Will be back at it Sunday though so maybe some harvesting and crafting missions will prove fruitful. I'd like to find ones that relate to the history and culture of Matis.

I've got an entry for Melee Weapons that is 2/3's done.. can't get the third bubble because it involves crafting either vests or ammo along with a melee weapon..
Also have entries for Goari, and Fyros.

I went out a bit this morning and talked to mission givers in Green Seed and Yrkanis and Davie and thus far haven't found any entries. I assume the enclopeida pops up when you do a missoin that has an entry?

Yes, when you do a missions it will open a entry.

Yes, when you do a missions it will open a entry.I guess since Soma is an "old" character, nothing jumps out or up at me that an entry has been made in my encyclopedia. To see if there has been a new entry I have to go to Window > Click Encyclopedia and then I see a box with +'s and words, which I can then unfold and see the new entries. Someone I know who has a new character - as in created after Chapter 2 patch - all they have to do is hit the "e" key and it shows up.

That's the problem with alot of the crafting missions. They jumble alot of stuff together that no sane crafting is going to be trying to level at the same time.
It seems that only the very serious crafters will be to complete these rites and I've yet to see a single mission that asks for a magic amp.
I'm still looking for harvest missions also which will be a pain. Regular mats I can find with ease, but tracking and finding the mission mats is going to be a needle in a haystack since there isn't a stanza to search just for mission related mats. Will be interesting indeed.

A few things to keep in mind at this moment. First of all the enncylopedia is NOT implemented yet. Let me say that again, the encylopedia is NOT implemented yet. It is true that we are able to do missions and have entries apppear, but Nevrax came out and said that it was a sort of easter egg Christmas Present. So if you can't open the encylopedia with the hit of one button, finding missions to give you entries seems like finding a needle in a haystack, or you don't understand how it all works, do not worry, the full thing will not be patched in until Jan 6, 2005.
I have to beleive after it's fully implemented figuring out what missions give what entries will be easier. I'm hoping that when all is said and done it will go something like this example:
I want to learn more about the lands of Witherings. I go find a NPC and complete a Rite missions. They give me the ok to learn more about that area. They then tell me in order to learn about the Cities of Intuition that I need to go help deliver things around Witherings. From that I would know enough to go to Zora and talk to the messenger to get some missions.
I don't know for sure if that is the case, but I am hoping so.

That is what I'm hoping for too. Not sure if its even fully implemented on the ATS yet either. I went and did the three missions for one NPC that I know give prereqs, only leaving the big bubble, and I still can't find anyone to talk to about it. The only difference that I can find right now is that on the ATS you can use E to call up the encyclopedia.

Almost spot on already Raynes :)
Did a lot of mesenger missions last night in Zorai and now have all but the big bubble on the cities of intuituon :)
it was fairly logical i just did missions to each city and one out of the three i took gave an entry.
been playing a month and i can get the encyclopedia by hitting e (ive never remaped that key)

I expect the Encyclopedia will be somewhat like the skill system. Characters are not required to accomplish every branch of every skill - just the skills that are meaningful to the character. Thus, the Encyclopedia will not require people to make a Zorai q80 Mace unless the reward is useful to someone who makes moderate level Zorai maces and not the majority of other characters. To answer your concern - I expect no entries in response to those tasks, or else it will be something only useful to very serious and not-quite-sane crafters.

I've found it most convenient to set a prospecting action with a wide arc, long range, lots of nodes, knowledge, and quality limited for the area I'm in - then go looking at the telltale marks on the ground. It isn't too hard to find a cluster of quest mats to catalogue. It is even more convenient when I've talked to the NPCs first so I know what they are looking for.
BTW, I've been ingame since week 3 and I need only press the E key.

I think that there is a prospecting specialization skill that is called Plants...or something like that...since NO plant is EVER a material...that is what I *think* that that spec. is for. IF you have that skill, and are willing to add it to a tracking action...would you please tell us if that helped...
Thanks.

The difference between regular mats and mission mats is that from what I have found, mission mats appear in one place only. So covering an area as large Majestic Garden in search of the one place that that mission mats appears will be a very time consuming process. Granted my level 200 skills will help, it is still a task that will take alot of my time. Then I get to rinse and repeat that for the next zone and the next, etc etc.
Also the mat in quest may not even pop up the first or second time you prospect in a given area. There is a spot outside of Davae that has 4 mission mats within a small area. It has taken me up to 6 prospects in that one location for the mission mat I was searching for to appear.
