The Great Open Source Noob Trek

I'm new to Ryzom, drawn by the open source announcement. I suspect I'm not the only one. In honor of the new blood, and to provide an opportunity to explore broadly through the beautiful land of Atys, I propose a trek!

This idea came up in conversation with Crailus and Suboxide, earlier today in Fairhaven. From what they tell me, a trek (from one capital to one or all of the others) is a very fun rite of passage for new players. In addition to seeing a great deal, it gives you an opportunity for your character to pick up teleport tickets for the other capital cities. Since master-level escorts will be in company, even complete noobs can join the trek. Each leg takes on the order of two hours.

I'm thinking to spend a week or so getting this together and getting any raw noobs oriented and mustered to Fairhaven, and then having the trek over several sessions, perhaps in the date range of May 19th thru 23rd. If you think you might like to join in, reply here or message me in-world.

Thanks to the old hands for making me feel so welcome!

Re: The Great Open Source Noob Trek

I'm always up for a trek, though I think 2 hours per leg is quite the overestimate. Maybe back in the old days when you had a hundred homins trekking at a time and crashes left and right, but not now. =)

*agrees with Jayce* These days entire trek can be done in 2 hours or so as long as ppl don't keep going afk.I'd enjoy going along as will most of the Mystix. Just set a day and time.

Re: The Great Open Source Noob Trek

Trek is on! Meet up Sunday May 16, 1200PDT/1900GMT, Fairhaven Stables. We'll go via Yrkanis to Pyr, probably stopping there on this leg. You'd be very welcome. We need more noobs!

If you can't make it there/then, give a yell, we may be able to put something together later.

Re: The Great Open Source Noob Trek

The trek was cheerful and excellent - as many as 18 trekkers, two-thirds of whom reached all four capitals (a 3/4 circumnavigation, FH to Yrk to Pyr to Zora) in a little over three hours. Thanks, Jayce, for being an efficient and no-nonsense trek leader, and thanks to the other escorts. We ended up evenly split between new trekkers and old hands.

I've created a four-panel postcard of our travels through lakes, forest, desert, and jungle: http://tinyurl.com/29oeyh5

There was only one casualty -- the feeble Mektoub I brought along for grins didn't make it even as far as Matis -- and only a dozen or so resurrections.
However, our hearts are with the intrepid but under-powered trio who attempted to complete the circumnavigation after the rest of us called it a day.
