Unable to log in due to Relaunch failure.

Heya all. I've got a bit of a problem and was wondering if you kind folks could help me out.

I've downloaded the trial client, created my account, all that good stuff, however when I log in (input my login and password then select the server) I'm able to get to the "Checking Files for Patch" stage - I'm told to click here to relaunch Ryzom. I click the button, the application window closes...

... and then nothing.

Nada. No relaunching, no activity at all. Doesn't matter how long I wait, the promised relaunch I'm told to wait for never occurs. Hitting a quick ctrl+alt+delete to see what programs are active at the moment shows a program listed as 'Winoldap' sitting there like a toad on a log. The only other active program at the time is Explorer. I'm pretty sure Winoldap is related in some way to Ryzom, but well, it never does anything.

Anyway, that's my situation as it stands. I'm not terribly computer-smart, and as such any advice on how I can get things to work properly so I can play this game would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Edit/Additional: Oh, and as it's probably a pertinant bit of information, I am running Windows 98.

I have the same problem, also running Win 98.
This is a very disappointing beginning.

You can try to run "ryzom_recover.exe" from game installation folder and/or click "check files" button at login screen.

Re: Unable to log in due to Relaunch failure.

Make sure that you have DirectX 9.0c installed on your system. Also ensure that your desktop display depth is 32 bits. And running the Ryzom_recover.exe app several times will ensure that you have the latest launcher and cfg files.

Something that may be causing a problem with patching is the fact that Windows 98 cannot handle more than 512 MB of RAM effectively. If you have more than 512 MB you should do the following:

- Edit the system.ini in C:\windows folder
- look for [vcache] and add the following line underneath it: MaxFileCache = 500000
- save the file
- reboot your computer

Re: Unable to log in due to Relaunch failure.

Oh yes, DirectX 9.0c is freshly installed, as are video and audio drivers. Desktop display depth was indeed 32bits.

Interestingly enough, when you run the recover program, you can't use the config program that sits in the program folder because it gets superceded, and if you can't get into the game, you can't change the config. I had to reinstall the 1.2G program and then repatch to make that work.

I will check out the vcache as I haven't heard of that one before. I have 625MB or so, as I recall, but I haven't had problems with the RAM, video or audio in other MMOs other than the audio seems to create lots of lag.

I did manage to get the thing to work without messing with the vcache by disabling audio in the config program. I have an ATI Radeon 9k card in combination with an SB Audigy card which two pieces of hardware apparently don't get on well with SoR in combination. If any of you would like to buy me an nVidia card so I can run this game bug free, I will accept it with my thanks .

Ok, I have tried every SINGLE solution offered to the relaunch problem and it will not relaunch no matter what. I am very close to giving up.

check if there is updt_nl.bat (or something similar .bat file, launch.bat is not it) and try to run it.
basically ryzom tries to run that file after you click relaunch button.

that file will move files from unpack folder to their right destination and launches game.

hopefully this helps.

Don't see any .bat anywhere, is it supposed to be in my folder?

Re: Unable to log in due to Relaunch failure.

Yup. It should appear after patching.

Edit: It might have been executed but some other problem prevents SoR from starting. It might be helpful to know what system you have (CPU, how much RAM, video card, sound card)

file extensions may be hidden, so it may just show up as updt_nl

something to try:
check your Ryzom link (icon you click when running ryzom) that "Running Directory" (it's probably under different name) is your ryzom folder.

do a full search for updt_nl.bat file on your computer ;-)

when "relaunch" button appears, dont click it.
go to \ryzom folder and check if you have that updt_nl.bat file (not really sure when it's created).
make copy of it to \ryzom folder under different name and click "relaunch" button in ryzom. run your copy of updt_nl.bat file.

other than these... i'm out of ideas ;-(
