Changes needed in the CoC

well, last night I had a run in with another guild during an Aen hunt. IMO the other guild blatantly stole the kill, however, that is not the focus of this thread. Instead what surprised me was the GMs reaction to a ticket being sent in about a Kill Steal.

The GM told me there was nothing they could do since Kill Stealing is not defined in the CoC. Since its not mentioned, they can't do anything to punish it. So essentially, all the talk about the lack of response from the GMs over recent kill stealing is all in waste since its apparently legal. I would have thought it would fit into the Harassment category myself, but turns out its not.

The GM further went on to tell me they get several tickets each time Aen is killed. Now logically, this should result in some action on their or Nevrax's part. If wrong keeps gettin done in the same place over the same stuff, shouldn't they do something to remedy that?

So my suggestion to Nevrax (I was told Jolt could do nothing til Nevrax changes the CoC) is that they actually change the CoC so that the GMs have a clear guideline as to what is right and wrong behavior.

makes me laugh that people send a ticket in for people kill stealing when the other person is more than likely camping the spawn for the bandit to spawn so i guess 2 wrongs dont make a right

Re: Changes needed in the CoC

The only few pieces of unique items showed up in game and the ugliness start.

This is the umph thread and problem caused by Aen and her goons already.

Makes you think about the whole "human nature" thing don't it? :P

I think instead of changing their policy, they should get rid of Aen altogether, or introduce something like EQ2 where you cannot engage her once someone engaged her first.

Re: Changes needed in the CoC

This sort of thing happens every time you put "phatl00t" into a game. Aen (and a couple other boss mobs) are the only mobs to drop something other than body parts, useless jewelery, or dappers. Until everyone has a suit of Aen armor, you will hear of 'kill stealing.' And nothing will be done about it. It's truly a pain in the arse.

I don't really understand how you can complain about kill stealing... do you want to get rid of all competition in this game in its entirety? Doing more than 50% damage to a boss like aen isnt easy...

so they killed it quicker than you did, boohoo
sorry but i hate people policing our actions so im glad the GMs didnt do anything

So Power Leveling is the key to this game then. A guild of much high lvl casters shows up and blasts her, so therefore, regardless of how long we had been fighting her or who had pulled her, the kill should go to the higher nukers? Seems like thats simply rewarding those who just power level and against those who like to cover all areas. What if it had been a group of diggers who were attempting to kill Aen? They can stay alive, but it just takes then a while to do it. Another team shows up, blasts her, and they get the kill, even though the other team tanked it. Oh yea, that sounds real fair and in good spirt....

Re: Changes needed in the CoC

Guess the thread is not about Aen but about the kill-steal.

Of course camping is bad, it deprives other players of oportunity of a specific kill, but if you try to compare both actions, I believe the kill-stealing is much closer of harassment than camping.

Let me explain.
1. Camping.
When you see a group of people near a well known spawn, just sitting there, you know that they are prepared for a specific action, and you don't need to be a genius to guess the action. After all they have the right of the 1-st "customer" there. They are sitting there, doing nothing but waiting for the boss to spawn. You've arrived there 2-nd, your frustration is easy to understand. And when you see them starting the fight and killing "your" mob, your frustration becomes anger.

2. Kill stealing.
Let's say you are a low level and ur hunting... the capryini boss. U gather some friends, ask them to help you - after all the xp is minimal for a group, you only need the mats - and they agree. You are establishing a strategy (kill minions first, who heals who, who pulls, who casts fear, etc), and you are starting the combat. You kill all the minions, the boss only needs 2-3 blows to die and suddenly, out of nowhere, a 350 dmg nuke is killing it. A completelly strager comes down from the nearby hill, and loots the body then go away whistling. You lost your time, you friends lost their time too, you did not even got the mats. You now need to wait a long time for Caprytekh to respawn. More time lost. Lots of frustration and anger. Even easier to understand.

What can I say guys? Try to compare. And the ones that are kill-stealing... try to imagine how would be if that would happen to you. How would you feel? Ah, sure... "This will never happen to me, coz i'm fast and deadly" "Is a competition, is dog eat dog" "I've done my part of damage to that boss, I'm entitled to get the loot". Sure...

i want to correct you, I pulled aen that why it was on me!

We tanked her, and WE did all the damage, and we where there first, you have no reason to moan.

Second of all there was 4 of us, its not our fault we are good.

I am not going to comment on the specific topic of kill stealing... but I have noticed that even if I do more than 50% of the damage, i dont always get the loot.... it has something to do with who deals the last hit.... example is when I've pulled a mob into a friendly tribe who took its attention off me while I nuked it. I did over 90% of the damage... but ran out of sap... and watched the NPC's kill it... i didnt get the loot. But on another occassion in the same spot, I waited... till it was almost dead... then nuked it, and got the kill. So... in that situation it isnt always who does most damage. (but maybe thats because an NPC was involved...)

anyone have any further insight?
