[DEV] Equipment Changes, August 10

From Nevrax:

Quote:

About armors:
- In order to wear light armor your skill has to be less than 25
levels below the the armor's level. For example, you can wear a
light armor whose level is 75 when you reach 50 in the appropriate
skill.
- Medium and heavy armor require you to have a skill of 25 less
than the level of the armor and the right consitution level.

Re: [DEV] Equipment Changes, August 10

I had already started a thread on this before there was a feedback thread.
http://www.ryzom.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17106

I don't even know why we bother with feedback sometimes, since level requirements were never part of the original proposal/discussion. You annouce the change the day before the patch goes in, yet ATS has been patched with the level requirements for 10 days or so.

Also the original feedback discussion was about Light Armor. The new level requirement will also affect anyone using Medium Armor too.

The changes have no affect on me since I have sufficient skill levels to satisfy the requirement. But others it will have a much bigger effect.

Seems like a good change from what was planned. Lets get this patch out and move on to something more exciting

Too bad the change isn't retroactive so everyone can enjoy the nerf.

Isn't that redundant for the heavy armor at least? If you have the con requirement to wear a piece of heavy armor, you automatically are within 25 levels of it's Q, aren't you?

That says to me it's directed specifically at altering medium armor?

I believe the max constitution you can have is your highest skill + 15. You can currently wear heavy armor that's your constitution + 10. Therefore, in the current system, you can wear heavy armor that's your level + 25. So you're correct, it won't have an effect.

It will certainly affect medium armor though. Currently, you can wear medium armor that's your constitution * 1.5. So let's say you're L85 melee and have 100 constitution. Currently, you could wear L150 medium. However, with the new restriction, you would only be able to wear it if you have some other skill that's at least L125.

Anyway, I think having the restriction tied to your highest level, regardless of skill is a reasonable change from their first proposal. This allows high level harvesters, crafters, and mages to wear light armor at their level.

I don't mind the Light armor requirements being set up this new way.
I'm curious why we weren't given this information to discuss earlier (since it's apparently been known for a while)

But I'm also disappointed they're chaning medium armor. It doesn't see much use at it is, why nerf it?

I too wish medium armor saw more use in the game if only to see more women running around in it

However, I've always been a supporter of having level restrictions on all equipment to keep a low level market for all the crafters and keep brand new players from running around with ridiculous boosts.

I think the low usefulness of medium armor compared to the others is a separate issue that I hope they have some ideas on solving. I'd rather see them place the restriction on it but then make some changes to it so it's more appealing (perhaps tailor it to ranged fighting if and when they revamp ranged).
