My 2 Dappers...
*** Disclaimer Yeah I know there are 50 million other posts on all of this, but too lazy to read em all... too darn depressing me thinks. ***
After many disscussions with many homins, here is my compilation of things to improve the current situations in SoR. It will be in random order, not signifying any level of importance by what appears early in the list.
I have never been against PvP in Ryzom, as long as it isn't shoved down my throat. Have avoided it by not entering PR (until recently... all the PvP fans are in the new zone There is a place for it here, and I do feel it needs to part of the game in one form or another. But, the current implemation is not what it should be. Perhaps a bit rushed, and may tie into the financial difficulties of Nevrax. But that is just my personal theory based upon nothing other than my own feelings.
The current PvP/FvF situation at best is screwed. New players or low level players have no allowable role. A crafter can't safely craft if the guards are wiped, or even if that player just enters into the camp. I tested that theory this morning with an alt... poor girl.. and was promptly microwaved within 15 seconds of the timer expiring. As one said, it will never work... just a level 250 nukefest. Which for the most part is what it has been. Melee's have no place in the battle... only high level mages. The standard answer of "you don't like it, don't go" is rather offending. Being the only real major content addition in quite a few moons it needed to cater to all the players, not just a select group. Simply stated, it was an addition for high/max level players... not for the common folk. The only role a low level player can fulfill is the one of bait... grab some Kinchers, pop invul, and run to the enemy. Both sides are frying diggers and dragging nasties to the opposition. There is no easy fix now... what's been done is done, but here are a few ideas that are sure to anger both sides.
If your going there to dig, and dig only, ya stop at an NPC, perhaps named "Kami Forager Savior", or "Karavan Forager Guardian" and get a little item for your bag that makes you invulnerable to all attacks. Catch is if you ever un-equip your pick for any reason, instant death and dp to go along with it. Which kinda ties in with the next thing... Whatever faction controls the hill, also controls who digs. If Karavan hold the hill, then all Kami's with there little invul item disappears and they are free game for the indiscrete, and vice-versa. Most likely a real bear to code for the game, but is a nice thought... perhaps charge a GM or guide with the task of watching over it and flipping the switch when needed. Heck, make them shiny swords useful and have them return sone damage to the caster.
The easier solution would be to make times when no PvP is allowed... let both sides dig for 2 hours a day, twice a day. Stagger the times to cover the timezones a bit. It may just get this thing over with quicker that way. I'm sure that this new shiny is going to be less and less popular as time wears on.
Now on to the other stuff that may be of interest...
Guild settable MOTD... we've all wanted this one for a long time. Or atleast I have.
Bag size restrictions. Would be nice if the allowable bulk for our "bags" would increase with levels. Yes, that does sound dirty, but wipe those thoughts from your mind. As a Master Forager in one land, and enough levels in the others to make a trip to the Harvest Trainer nothing but a blank window... would be nice to use some of the SP that is collecting.
Soloing. Was easily doable pre-patch 1... has gotten more and more difficult since. Yes this is a mmorpg, but people still want their alone time now and then. There are days where I don't want to dig or craft, yet would rather do something alone. Seeing as Preperation H isn't a item in game, get tired of sitting on me nether region while attempting to solo. There needs to be some kind of compromise... 2 star and under, soloable, anything higher... group needed.
Broken items. Just make them disapear completly. Sorry, but if it's broken and wore out, it should be gone. Picks and crafting tools included.
Guildhalls. If those four doors aren't going to be implemented any time soon... make them tp's to the capitols of the four regions. The guild janitor is getting tired of sweeping them out.
Add PvP Arena's into every land. The Matis have one... why can't the rest of the race.
Thinking that my 2 dappers has been spent.
