It is with a heavy heart that I write these lines.
My name is Thosam. A few of you may know me. That crazy, chatty Tryker digging a bit, jewelling a bit, always talking a lot, always ready with an opinion. I have today cancelled my subscription for SoR. So on January 10th my days here on Atys end. I like this game very much. I have been on Atys since Open Beta 1. I was a Focus Beta tester. I’ve been playing more or less consistently since release. I survived Patch 1. I am still convinced that SoR was/is a very much needed different take on mmorpg’s, both gameplay and graphics-wise. But I am a neutral. I’m a Trytonist and loud’n’proud war resister and I really do not like the way the game is developing. I am in favour that those who decide to actively take part in the Kami-Karawan Wars get rewarded, that they get all sorts of swag and titles and such. After all, they engage themselves in the game for their faction and fight for it. What I do not favour and what was the deciding point for me, is that I, who equally active and consciously decided not to take part in PvP or FvF or the Kami-Karawan Wars, because that would violate both my in-game and out-game philosophy, and because I think SoR’s skills aren’t balanced enough for it to be fair and feasible, will have my game options reduced so much, that it appears almost not worth playing. So I decided to cancel my subscription. It wasn’t easy. All players make an investment in the games they play, not just time- and money-wise, but also emotionally. For there is so much I will miss. - My crazy, friendly, mad guildies in Evolution. - Yubos running around your feet, sniffing at you, widdling at you while digging. - the sight of flocks of izams respawning around you in mad flapping abundance on Izam Isle - Caprynis screaming my ears off when I’m prospecting in a herd of them. - fields of glowing pollens slowly rising and dancing round me at night. - wild and weird chat sessions at Fairhaven stables and at Thesos Pub Nights - watching the cloppers migrating through Winds of Muse in winter - watching gingos hunt and fight yubos for food and sometimes even loose. I could list so many more things. But right now I have to leave this all behind. I will continue reading the forums and the Chronicles, and maybe I will return some day. But until then I bid you all a heartfelt and almost tear-full good-bye and fare-thee-well. Be assured I will miss many of you. Thosam will live on in other worlds, try looking for him elsewhere, either follow the trail of an Italian Renaissance painter into the unknown of space or find what lies hidden. Re: It is with a heavy heart…
Sorry to hear it. But if you're not happy with the game, then there's no point in remaining.
You'll be missed. And SoR will be losing another brilliant player. |

Very sad day. Ryzom loses yet another of the 'First Ones'.

I'm sorry to see you go - but if the game isn't doing it for you anymore it is the best decision. Hopefully we'll see each other in another life.

Re: It is with a heavy heart…
I am very sorry to see you go Thosam but as others have said, if the game isn't doing it for you then it's time to move on. I wish you well in your future travels and I hope that one day we may all meet up again. Evolution, as a guild, stretches beyond Ryzom and I know full well that where ever you are, Evolution will be with you in some form.
God bless and good luck. |

Re: It is with a heavy heart…
Sorry to see you go and good luck on your journey.
There does seem to be a lull in the forces that cause me to log in every night. Maybe I have a case of the "high level" blues or its time for me to refresh my Friends list so it isn't so full of names of folks that don't play any more. Maybe I need to get out more and find out where the avid players are. Maybe its the holiday season where people are engaged in RL activities or hopping among the latest releases. But things have been quiet, quiet for a long time. Even the forums.... where have all the homis gone!??! Maybe we need to bring back Jydus to liven things up a bit. We fear change, fear the unknown. We want to stay with the familar, we want to feel safe and in control. We being me. The proposed changes as written makes me think that they will be painful. There seems to be little room for neutrals. Players are "encouraged" to pick a faction. On a personal level its no big deal. Be neutral and play the old game or be a citizen committed to a religous cult with your PvP toggle switch and play the new game. As a guild it seems to suggest that instead of being the sum of its members, you will have to pick who your friends are carefully. I've been here since Open Beta. I've made the game be what I wanted it to be because, frankly, there wasn't anything else to do in game. Ryzom was total freedom. First thing you did in Ryzom was throw out the manual. You could read the lore but then again this was your saga. The story was about how you woke up and found yourself in a refugee camp, removed from your family, your people and the protection of the Roots. You had a few things in your bag, maybe a dagger, maybe an amp, maybe a pick. Maybe I just miss that day. I've been on ATS for a bit when they opened it to all. Long enough for 30 rounds of "whack the bot". I had thought that everyone I was missing in game was on ATS... but they aren't. Our outpost has been "threatened" once since Day 3 of Open ATS. Three guys who discovered that the mercs don't have an issue with the mount bug. But that's another thing... Despite the "doom and gloom" I've posted I'm still gonna hang on. Maybe the kitin invasion the Rangers foretold will happen and we'll be distracted for a bit. I could use a good invasion event about now. Sorry didn't mean to hijack your good bye thread. Just wanted to say "I know how you feel" but that was way too short. -Raku |
