First Interview with Gameforge

Allright, as promised I´ve translated my short Interview with Klaas Kersting, CEO of Gameforge for you

Luckily he answered without any delay

Acridiel:
How do you see the future of the Game? Allright, if you did not see any, why then buy it, but what exactly are you planning to do?
Will you continue to develop it in the Spirit of its original founders, or will you go your own way?
Do you plan any drastic changes to Code, or Engine that would influence the Gameplay? (Makeing it more "mass-attractive" like WoW, or EQII)

Klaas Kersting:
We want to help Ryzom to get the success it truly for deserves a long time now. Ryzom is a great Game, that is realy fun to play and it should stay this way. I can´t go into Deatils right now - we still have to get an overview of things first.

Acridiel:
Why did you buy Ryzom?
Many Plaayers fear that, with your history of Browsergames, you´ll turn it into a Browsergame too. Others belive that that you´d want to use it´s Engine and License as stepping stones into the "true" MMO World. What´s true?

Klaas Kersting:
With our subsidiary company Gameforge 4D we´ve allready got a working MMO namend Metin2 http://metin2.de - and it´s working quite fine.

Acridiel:
Will you continue the semi-regular Patch cycle that nevrax established?

K.K.:
Regualr Patches are essential for the survival of a game - of course we will continue this.

Acridiel:
It is known that you will keep the staff of Nevrax, will you do so with Jolt too?

K.K.:
We´ve secured a deal with jolt for continued support for the next time. In Jenauray I´ll fly to London to talk with Jolt about the future.

Acridiel:
How did Ryzom come to your attention?

K.K.:
If read on the Internet about the Open Source-Initiative - and we realised that Ryzom would be a perfect addition to our existing Games and Playerbase. So we decided to get into the bid.

Acridiel:
Do you realise what makes Ryzom so special as a Game, opposed to other Games of the Genre?
Will you try and keep these particularities in the Game, or will you get rid of them for more "Mass Value"?

K.K.:
I´ve played Ryzom myself for a time and had much fun with it. I know the World and its highlights - and the last thing we´d do is to dilute these.

Acridiel:
Will you continue developping the Ring?

K.K.:
Ryzom Ring is a very exiting project. But we´ll have to get an overview here first too, before we can say anything concrete.

Acridiel:
Nevrax and Jolt are known for their quite open Information Politics, will you continue this way?

K.K.:
Of course we´ll do. Players are the Soul of any Onlinegame and we know of the Influence of a good community.

Okay, I hope this will clear a few things up.
Anything not quite clear may have been caused by my inadecuate translation and I´m sorry for that. But I think it´s okay
He seems pretty decend, nice, friendly and open to me.
A few things are understandably to early to know, even for him. So we´ll wait and see

Cheers
Acridiel

Re: First Interview with Gameforge

wow thanks for the informative interview! It is at least encouraging that this person has seen the game and has some sense of why people think it is special. Of course the decisions made down the road well are anyone's guess, but it sounds like there aren't a lot of preconceived notions coming in. I get a good feeling coming off of this.

Great news that the CSRs are sticking around as they are universally respected!

EDIT: Oooo Metin2 looks pretty good, I like the screenshots and movies. Good to see this isn't the first 3D world they've worked in. I rather like the battle fan...the special attacks and animations, very nice.

Thanks Acridiel! Gameforge are making all the right noises so far, probably pretty standard for anyone taking over but still encouraging to hear.

Re: First Interview with Gameforge

I am glad to see the boat isn't rocking YET... however, let's wait and see what they DO ! Gameforge.De are not new like Nevrax was when they started (and we saw the vision of DDC for this game)... before we proclaim them savior's let's see what happens.

I am glad a commercial company took over, however I am a gamer and the proof is in the pudding. I have been the same level (in the skills I "Wanted to be when I grew up") for AGES, I have not seen a new map (other than things that R2 players couldn't equal) in a LONG time.

When the bean counter's and business folks have tinkered with our "Saga" and it perseveres... I will be a happy HOMIN. Until then I think I am like many...

Waiting to see what happens, the "Saga" needs to come back !
