I have the same question. It was not in open beta 2 but the new manual that comes with the game mentions 5 skill trees with one of them being defense. I think this was a great skill that made it so it mattered weather you were in dodge or parry mode. Please let us know what happened to it if anyone knows. Thanks

Heh, so THAT is why I can't find the defensive skills referenced on multiple fan forums. I am at 25 fight right now, specializing melee, and even in the next break-out of 1h/2h/close combat, I haven't seen any defensive skills.

Am I missing something?

P.S. As a fighter, the single most important thing I've done is switch my defensive stance from Dodge to Parry. MUCH more effective.

It was a passive tree and not really usefull (you didn't get skill points from it).

Because of the way the defense tree was gained and used, it was removed from the skill list and switched to tie into your other skills. Unfortunately, this was after the manual had gone into production, so there was no time to update it.

Your defensive skill level is now determined by the highest level of the Fight, Magic, or (Harvest / 2) skill trees. Crafting doesn't give defensive bonuses.

Ah ok, thanks for the help there. There are so many windows in the UI I was afraid I hadn't found the correct ctrl - alt - left shift - x hotkey sequence to bring up the window for Defense
